Re: The latest release from Daniels Family Knife Brands
Went to a PA knife show over weekend & was talking to the owner of Titusville Cutlery ... super nice guy (sorry, I'm bad with names). Gave me an incredibly fair trade on one of his Lexingtonian coffin jacks. I've never been afraid of color - looks like a nebula
... I really dig it - super slim with the single spear blade, fit and finish is impressive. I'm a new fan - would love to see this company continue to expand .... maybe with a wharncliffe offering
pffffft that's not a knife ......... now THAT'S a knife !! Crocodile Dundee

That Lexingtonian has your name all over it, John....great color, cool knife!
As for as wanting a DFKB Wharnie.....get in line! Kevin & I have been requesting that for some time and counting on Carl to use his considerable influence to sway the DF decision makers in that direction.

lol, Wharnies are coming. The last round of prototype patterns, I made sure to put cut a wharncliffe blade for each one as a potential option. Sometimes they just don't look right in the pattern, but if they do, they'll be included.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 3:22 amThat Lexingtonian has your name all over it, John....great color, cool knife!![]()

Re: The latest release from Daniels Family Knife Brands
Carl ... really glad I discovered Titusville Cutlery & met Ryan at the PA knife show last weekend - really liking my new Lexingtonian "nebula" dyed wood grain knife. If I may be a bit self serving ... I came up with a wharncliffe mod to a Case Muskrat, affectionately coined on AAPK as the "ratcliffe" ... "rat" for muskrat; "cliffe" for wharncliffe. Most folks seem to like the result ... might make a really fun pattern to expand the Titusville line if a wharncliffe is in consideration - nice swedge grinds would make it really stand out. Here's an idea of what it looks like (feel free to PM me if you would like to see more examples - I've worked up a couple dozen of them).Rookie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 1:27 pmlol, Wharnies are coming. I love it John. One thing that Ryan prides himself on, is he makes what the collectors want. I'll show him this picture and see if a ratcliffe is in our cards for 2027.Lansky1 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 1:59 amCarl ... really glad I discovered Titusville Cutlery & met Ryan at the PA knife show last weekend - really liking my new Lexingtonian "nebula" dyed wood grain knife. John, I assume you have seen the DFKB Tuna Valley Phoenix Jack pattern. They are definitely a handful, and I personally love the Swayback pattern, but you may be looking for something more along the lines of your patented "Ratcliffe".Lansky1 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 2:02 amThanks for the heads up Q ... would sure love to see a Titusville wharncliffe offering as well.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2026 3:22 amThat Lexingtonian has your name all over it, John....great color, cool knife!![]()

I did text him John and relayed what you had said. I don't know if you are on social media, but Ryan mentioned to feel free to express your happiness with the knife there as well. He said it is always good to have a happy customer express their satisfaction with a knife.Lansky1 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2026 5:27 pmCarl ... I appreciate that. Re: The latest release from Daniels Family Knife Brands
The newest releases of the Mountain Cougar from Tuna Valley, this time all with spear blades. There was a sample run of blue mammoth ivory (with and without cap), interior mammoth ivory (with and without cap), and crosscut mammoth. Only a few of each were made so far, but there will be a full run of the interior and crosscut made for sure, and likely the blue ones as well.
Also, there were 3 different colors of wood, and 5 colors of jig bone handles.

I didn't see that last picture initially and wondered how it would look with the blade closed, with that big Spear and narrow frame, but it looks like a good fit.

A part of knife design I've learned is that the knifemaker in Titusville asks that the blade tip be proud on every knife design, and then he can manually bring it down himself on each individual knife, ensuring there isn't any blade rapping, and also that the tip isn't exposed. Just part of the tricks of the trade I've learned by talking with him when working on new knife designs. I don't know if that is a universal step, or just his personal preference, but it seems to work out nicely for the DFKB knives.

Hey Kevin ... just a note on how to fix blade rap - I find that by carefully using a dremel tool with a small cutoff wheel, you can take off a little on the back spring in the location where the blade rap is happening & it provides enough clearance so it eliminates the rap. It really isn't visible either unless you get a flashlight & inspect the spring inside the liner.knifeaddict1965 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 11:29 pmVery interesting and makes perfect sense.Rookie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 9:59 pmYeah it tucks in pretty nicely. I've seen some really nice knives with blade rap, and that can be real disappointing!

I just got this photo done this morning, and posted on the website and social media. The next Cougar release is in Abalone and Crosscut Mammoth. 30 of each made. Like all Tuna Valley knives, these have the 154CM steel blade and spring.
