Sentimental pocket knives

Post by American Blade 92 »

When I was a kid, I mowed the lawn for a wonderful old woman from Kentucky. We developed a friendship over the years. Unfortunately she passed away in 2021 at the age of 92 I believe. One day after mowing her lawn she presented me with a little box of pocket knives. They aren't expensive knives but they are worth a lot to me because of the rich memories that go along with them. What's your story?

Nice knives you have there.

This was my dad's Colonial. He had other knives but I never saw them.

That's a great old colonial, special that it was your dad's.

Excellent topic and much respect to both posters above. Priceless heirlooms!

This Ulster Scout was a gift from my best friend of over 50 years. His dad carried it and after his dad passed away, he gave it to me. A better friend I have never had and never will again. We are currently working to fulfill things that we both have on our Bucket List. Should have done that a long time ago.

Nice knives, but better stories.

I carried these two yesterday and was thinking they'd be good candidates for this thread. The Colonial Executive pen was owned by my wife's great grandfather. I inherited this knife and a few others when his daughter, my wife's grandmother, passed. The yellow jack, also a Colonial, came to me via the pos exchange two years ago. My sons opened the box I received from KLJ77 with me and had a great time reading his poetry and certificate of authenticity and rummaging through the pile. This knife was amongst the poo (maybe was the poo). A while later I let my oldest boy pick out his first pocketknife from among some I picked out of my own pile, and this is what he chose. We cleaned it up together and I taught him some safety rules. I filed the edge off though, I just wanted him to practice not losing it and not showing it off. Now my middle son has his first knife as well, and I've rethought filing the edge off. They need to know how to use the real deal and be safe. My oldest has other knives now as well which are all fully functional. I saw this one in his knife box though and remembered its dull edge. After I showed him some sharpening techniques, I pocketed it for the day. I put the little red one in my fifth pocket to ride along so I could contemplate family across generations. Its interesting to me that my son owns the one that is maybe 10 or 20 years older than the other, and he's three generations younger.

That's my Etsy store where I sell old knives and sometimes handmade knife accessories to support my knife habbit. Thanks for looking my friend. ::tu::

All of these knives are good looking. The sentimental story that goes with it
is even better.

This Case Trapper is pretty special to me. It was my Dads and when he passed while cleaning out his house in 2018, I found it. I actually gave him the knife when he told me he lost his Old Timer knife. It was getting close to Fathers Day back in around 2010 and I gifted it to him. To have it back in my possession means alot to me. I admire all the scratches, dents and dings that are on it now, because I know they came from his use of the knife. There is still his pocket lint in the well!! :)
