Just watched Hidalgo for the third or fourth time. The wild horse are so cool. I have never seen any other than on TV. Back in the 90’s the first family and I did the Rushmore thing and we had the burrows putting their heads in our truck. We asked around people said they were on a fire rode close to the main road. We decided to take the fire road. Came around a corner and slowly drove directly through the herd it’s amazing how big they are. I have some film pictures somewhere. I was obviously young and stupid. You won’t catch me trying to drive through a herd of Buffalo now.

Wow Ike you’re being pretty hard on Red. Rider/ John maybe that’s what rider stands for.
My suggestion to you John would be go to Florida and grab one of the wild horses there not as far a ride.

The Mrs. got an Amazon delivery about 8:30 last night, so I jumped in the Ranger to go down to the gate to get it. Gathered the package and turned around to drive back, and this guy had crawled into the driveway behind me. I keep a hoe in the back of the Ranger just for these occasions. First copperhead of the season.......and, yes, I need to sharpen my hoe.

A pretty good sized one.

That's a new one for me also, Floyd.
I enjoy eating mushrooms but only identify a couple of wild ones, most of the ones we eat are from the grocery store.

Good kile Mike. That copperhead bring back memories from long ago from my couple years as a kid in Kentucky.
Picked up a baby copperhead by the tail once. Mom lost her mind.

Beautiful picture Floyd. Would never guess that was a mushroom.

Got a better picture (not grainy) of 3 of the ~20 wild horses again. Love seeing them.

Went doing radio checks out in the ranges around where the horses.
Basically, paid to 4WD through the desert all day in the outdoors. Love that job perk.

Out by Bilk Creek Reservoir and through the desert into Kings River Valley.
In a month or so with the coming spring rains, these same pictures will have wildflowers galore of every color imaginable.
Kings River Valley contains 25% of the world's lithium. 2 yesra ago mine construction commenced. Sad to see as I have hunted and fished that valley for 30 years. Oh, and a ton of heavy equipment, big rigs, equipment burn copious amounts of "evil fossil fuel" to extract it. It is a zero ROI, feel good greenie, SHAM!
I digress...
Picture 4 is Kings River Valley.
Picture 2 shows the pointy mountain, right of center, Disaster Peak. Called that for a reason. Fort Mcdermitt was established in 1865 for 24 years for US Army Calvary, ~30 miles away.
All the mountains around here have had a ton of blood spilled on them. Many locations throughout the county, with bloody battles between US CAV and Native Americans.

Cool pictures, Joe. I see groups of turtles sunning like that, but they always slide into the water before I can get a picture. You must have a friendlier face than me, or maybe you were wearing a turtleneck and blended in with the crowd?

My son went fishing with a friend today. Didn’t invite the old man. His friend was fly fishing he was sitting there, not sure what he was fishing with. He caught a nice rainbow trout. Pretty good size for around here.
