Featured Collector Idea

Post by PA Knives »

As an administrator and working in concert with Bryan our fearless leader ::tu:: I wanted to see if the group would have interest in the following idea. I would like to see a thread devoted to focusing on the collection of a featured member. Many of you have outstanding collections and have photographs of them as well. The knowledge on this forum continues to impress me daily. This thread would be for the chosen collector to post photos (how ever and how many they so choose) and then give a history of themselves and thier cutlery items for all of us to enjoy. I, like most of you love to see the pictures. Unfortunately they get scattered about on various threads and I don't get to see all of them. New knives, old, vintage, doesn't matter. Pics and some info is all that is required.

It seemed to me that picking someone may be the hardest part. Of course volunteers would be easiest way but some may be bashful to expound upon their fine collections.

I thought maybe tieing it to the winner of the monthly drawing might be a nice way of saying thank you to the site and providing some useful info back in exchange???? What do you people.

Remember a collection only has to be two or more. You don't need 300 to qualify and any knife is of interest to this group.

Kick it around and let us know what you think.

(Oh and just a hint) plans are being considered for an actual live realtime auction online. How'es that for some fun this year and we hope for it to benefit the NKCA as well.

Hi PA... How about a Collectors' forum and anyone who was so inclined could start his/her own collection thread? :D s-k

Hey Pa.
I like the basic concept, but I have my doubts about how well tying it to the monthly knife give away will work. I know we have members who lack the capability of taking digital photos and posting them here on the site.
On the other hand we have a lot of members who have collections that I'm sure all of us would greatly enjoy seeing posted. I enjoy seeing the knives others have, but it is definately more impressive when you can see a whole collection at one time like what you are talking about. Some of our members already have links to sites displaying their personal collections, and I have certainly found those very interesting and enjoyable to view.
Even if a member wanted to only show one part of their collection rather than all their knives, I think it would be a great addition to the site and would also help everyone get a better handle on what a particular members specific collecting interest are.
I think you're on to something here. ::tu::

I think it's a good idea!

I too have found myself searching about looking for a particular knife that someone had posted a time back.

S-K also has a twist on the same idea. A voluntary forum where members have their own thread showing us his or her stuff . The thread could have restrictions so a bunch of other pictures don't get posted in it.

And what about comments...................restrict characters to say 100?

Sounds like a good idea Pa. I know I would be interested in seeing some specialty collections. It might even come in handy for Round Table time. :D

Pa you asked so here is my in put.

I would like to have a lets say 6mo. trial run. To many times the winner gets the FREE knife and does not add much to AAPK.
So I see this would add more to the winner and us.
I would love to see some new members COLLECTION and not just WHATS THE VALUE OF THIS KNIFE $ $ ?.....
