Here's some K23s in Sellens' book. Could there have once been a shield that fell off (bottom left)?
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Could possibly had a badge. I know it's old and just paid $5.
Thank you for that information.

I believe that there is no shield because the scales have been replaced. Still a nice knife.

I never thought about that. It's a neat knife. Any idea how old it would be?

You guys don't think this is Horn Celluloid? I don't think I've ever seen it before.

Looks like either rams horn or bone that's been toasted to me...agree that's it's been re-handled.

Re: Keen kutter k23
The book page that 1967redrider posted is from a guide to Keen Kutter Pocket Knives written by Alvin Sellens. He had access to every Keen Kutter catalog published. The date given on the catalog page posted is 1959. Your knife was made for the Shapleigh Hardware Co. According to the Sellens book, Shapleigh only put out catalogs in 1942 and 1958. Shapleigh went out of business in late 1959. So, if Sellens gives a date of 1959 that means that your knife was not in either the 1942 or 1958 catalog and was probably made in 1959.Bitmark1954 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2026 12:37 pm Any idea of a date for this knife and value?

Dollar value would be minimal, I don't believe any more that $20 or so?
