Knives with a CAN PUNCH
I’m curious if anyone has a pocket knife with a can punch blade.
For those who may not know at one time beer came in cans like soup does with no pull tab. So you could use your knife or the best way was with a can punch. The kind of can opener that makes a triangle hole.
The only time I’ve needed one was to open those big cans of pineapple juice. They are also very handy to have if you are making a hobo stove out of a tin can. For the air vents.
I’m just surprised I’ve never seen a pocket knife with one.
Here is an interesting fixed blade that used one for the guard.

One more for ya, a Schrade Walden fishing knife. The can punch folds out from the back:

Those are great. Thanks guys. Pretty clever way to do it. More of an attachment than an actual blade.

Re: Knives with a CAN PUNCH
The Schrade is an actual blade with a spring. It can't be sideways in a knife because you wouldn't have anyplace to go with the little can edge gripper, too wide. Also you'd want to maintain the force parallel to the bolsters. Any prying force perpendicular to the bolsters runs the risk if pulling the pins and loosening the blades. Here's a shot of an Imperial I pulled off the web as i don't have my knife handy. They used the same opener in their fish knife. This gives you a better idea of how it's attached:

Oh, I see it now. Very clever and elegant solution. Thanks very much for the great explanation and pictures.
I always thought fish knives were great, hook disgorger, blade, scaler, ruler, hook sharpener, and a way to open a beer no matter how it’s packaged. Everything you could possibly need.

They don't have to stay in that position. They can be folded down so the opener is resting on the spring/spine.

Here's 12 of them on the original display board.

I see that it pivots more like a shackle or a bail. Is it just friction or do they have a spring?New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 9:29 pmThey don't have to stay in that position. They can be folded down so the opener is resting on the spring/spine.
That display board is pretty cool. Love to see stuff like that. Thanks.
Nice knife David, Neat color.

No, they don't have a spring. At least not the style of knife that I posted. They are pinned on.eveled wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 11:06 pmI see that it pivots more like a shackle or a bail. Is it just friction or do they have a spring?New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 9:29 pm

The Imperial that I posted is on a spring.

Re: Knives with a CAN PUNCH
As similar as they look they are very different. The Imperial and Schrade are on a pivot and spring like a blade.
The prov cutco and Pastor Aleman are on pin like a shackle with no spring.
Thanks guys.

Re: Knives with a CAN PUNCH
A few days ago, this pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my general, pocket knife accumulation. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, it did turn out to be a keeper. It is a PROV. CUT. CO., one blade, one tool (a can punch), one tang stamp, one tool stamp, 2 3/4" closed (not including the loop or ring), one spring, "dimpled" pins or rivets, tipped bolsters, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "PROV. CUT. CO. (over) PROV, R.I. U.S.A." The can punch stamp says, "PATENTED (over) PROV. CUT. CO. (over) PROV, R.I. U.S.A." The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. The can punch functions as designed. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

This Scout knife has a can punch on it. Old style punch. This is an Imperial from the late 1920’s

Don, that is a can opener for like a can of beans, to open the whole top, not really a can punch for canned drinks.

These can punches are pretty unique and rare. I’ve never run across one in person. Cool knives, Skip, Dale, woodwalker, and Don.

Re: Knives with a CAN PUNCH
An IMPERIAL fish knife with the fold out "Church Key". A neat piece of metal design. Also a CAMCO "Boy's Hunter" with a "Church Key" and bottle cap remover. Zip tops and screw tops made these obsolete. J.O'.
