Outers knife with compass
Any information about this outers knife.
The guy I got it from says possibly Western.
The integral guard is different from my Remingtons and the tang is thicker.

Looks like maybe Imperial? Just a guess, but reminds me of an Imperial camper/utility knife I have, with a similar compass inlaid in the handle.

Re: Outers knife with compass
Many companies that made or marketed fixed blade knives did sell the Outers pattern. I would guess that at least 20 to 30 companies can be found that sold them. Judging from the more rounded points on the integral guard, the larger domed handle pins and celluloid I think that Western is a very good bet. The Imperials I have seen with compasses had the compasses located in a different spot on the celluloid and pointier guards. Without a stamp or etch you may have to find an identical but marked knife to be sure.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Re: Outers knife with compass
I had one like the OP knife that was marked Imperial in script. Colonial made a lot of unmarked ones, often found in "Spear" marked sheaths. Looking more closely at the photo I think I see a reddish liner under the cracked ice. All the unmarked ones I have had in Spear sheaths had that red liners.

I do have a Colonial scout knife with the exact compass as this one.
