Nice collection of pyremite/celluloid.
I know someone asked if they were all Remington. I realize that is their version of celluloid. If they are all Remington that is quite the collection.
The one I like is the Elephant toenail/Sun fish.

I have added my favorite out of dad’s.

Py Rem ite.

The "Rem" is taken from the name Remington and Pyremite is Remington's name for the celluloid they used on their knives. Pyremite is specific to Remington's knives and word that shouldn't be used to describe celluloids other than those made by Remington.

Very good Ulster, Q. I am partial to pyremite celluloid, that one looks perfect.

That is a fine group of Winchesters, Msteele6. Nice variety of looks.

Just picked up this Ulster from Roger. It isn't necessarily colorful but I really like the pattern of the celluloid, particuarly how the angles of the lines wrap around the scales. The fact that the scales are a thicker slab rather than tapered down to meet the liner is also pleasing to the eye, imo.
The Rich Con etch/logo refers to Richards Conover hardware. This hardware firm began in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1857, later moving into both the Kansas City and Oklahoma City markets. They were in business for 140+ years.

Ike, that’s a beauty. Don’t recall ever seeing one hafted like that before, with the “squared” corners on its covers.

Heres another celluloid from the same hardware company but it is stamped REV-O-NOC. Conover spelled backwards. If you search online for “Rev-o-noc” you can find info about skates, rifles, shotguns, hand tools, and other items having the Rev-o-noc brand name, in addition to knives. Conover’s company was acquired by Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co. and Conover became an officer of HSB. Not sure if the REV-O-NOC brand name preceded the acquisition of Conover’s company by HSB, or if they created it as a house brand after the acquisition.

Beautiful knife! The handles are a type of patterned waterfall celluloid. Waterfall is still often misunderstood and mislabeled in old knives. If the knife is rotated in hand the lines in the celluloid will show a 3D type dimensional movement (like flowing water) if the material is a waterfall type celluloid. If no movement is seen the material is likely not a waterfall type celluloid. Not all waterfall celluloid is single color and your knife is a fine example of patterned waterfall celluloid.

That is a cool old knife, Ike. The way the scales are squared off instead of rounded down is more or less unique.

Can anyone describe how patterns were created in Celluloid? I guess acrylics do the same but how is it done? Is it liquid that colors are swirled into and then hardened, cut into handles and hafted? Some look like they have solid chips or flakes?
