Union Cut Co dogs head
Hello everyone thanks for letting me join the group. I picked up a pocket knife recently. A Union Cut Co Dog head shield knife. This is the first one with a Dogs head on it in my collection. It sure has an awful strong snap to it. There is no model number on this knife. It’s 5 1/4” closed and 9” when open. Can anyone tell me about when this knife was made? And would this be considered a Coke bottle style pocket knife? Any other information you have on this knife I’m all ears. Thanks.

Re: Union Cut Co dogs head
Your knife was made between 1911 and 1923 when Union Cut adopted the KA-BAR name. With the straight line stamping I would say more towards 1920 than 1911. Union Cut never put model numbers on blades and KA-BAR (no longer Union Cut) didn't put model numbers on blades until 1969. Yes, it is a "coke bottle" pattern, and an older name for this pattern was "beaver tail". Yours has had the blade cleaned and re-shaped and it's short.

How long was the blade when new?
