Buck Knife inflation

I do my grocery shopping at Walmart, and I usually walk through the sporting goods department and look at the knives in the cabinet. I remember back in 2020 the Buck 110 was $35 then they bumped it up to $65. I still walk through there and look at them, hoping they will lower the price. But no, they just raised it again, up to $90. I went home and got online to check the buckknives website, and sure enough, their price is also $90.

Prices certainly have increased. On just about everything.

I’m glad I bought most of the Buck knives that I wanted in 2022. They were starting to increase in price then but looking at today’s prices, I feel like I jumped in at a good time.

Before Wally increased their 110 price to $35 their 110s were $27 for a few years. Maybe 5 years? I assume Wally had negotiated a bulk purchase. During those years I bought an older 110 from a gun/pawn shop for $18. Other than needing some green cleaned off it is in excellent condition. To pry $90 out of my hand with a 110 it would have to have super duper stainless alloy, stag or two blades.

I wish I'd bought one of the 110s that had both 110 and 112 clip point blades. I thought the ones I saw sell on ebay cost to much. Now I realize I NEED one. I just have to figure out what I need it for.

Here's a question for Railsplitter. An ebay ad for a "rare" linerlock 110 went past on my screen yesterday. No, it was not an error writing the description. Why would Buck have made that? Do you know anything about them?

I had never heard of or seen one but I did find a video within a thread about it on another forum.

Yes that was a good time. I was strictly a Schrade collector until I felt like the prices were getting too high on unused USA knives. I still had the knife fever, so I switched over to Buck. That way I got "MORE BANG FOR THE BUCK".

That's interesting, I didn't know about the dual blade 110/112 combo hunter. That must be a heavy knife. That's the way I like em. When I carry one in my back pocket I know it's there, I don't have to keep checking to make sure it's in my pocket, I can feel it weighing down my jeans.

Prices are crazy on everything. How many things can ya buy today for $15 that will last several lifetimes with some care.?
New F150 @ $70,000. new side by side @ $18,000.... new fridge @ $1200.. A steak @ $17. And so it goes!

Was that something Buck actually made or a Frankenknife put together by a "mechanic"? If Buck made it why would it have the handle recesses for both the liner lock and the conventional lock lever?

Good question but it was made by Buck. I saw the post from Joe Houser that robpa mentioned above. I assume it was easier to use parts already in stock than to fabricate new ones but that’s just a guess.

I like that kinda stuff. it creates a niche to go after. Ive got a couple queens that I at first thought were bogus, so did others. Come to find out they are the real thing, in very low numbers. Not exotic, just a bit different/

IMHO, a standard Buck 110 for under $100 is a fair price. The Buck 110 is an iconic product and Made in the USA.

Inflation takes it toll, and unless there is deflation, inflated prices are compounded by future inflation. A $100 knife in January 2018 would be $131.10 in January 2026 due to inflation alone. Of course, sometimes manufacturers can reduce the impact of inflation through process optimization.

An omlette breakfast with coffee routinely runs $21+ not including tax and tip. I bought 2 Winchells plain cake donuts that set me back about $4.50! Yikes.
