Thanks, John! I do have a bad habit of wanting every handle material in certain patterns I like but honestly hadn't considered that initially when I got these. I just loved this pattern and the Smooth Moss Green Bone they originally came in, and now ol' CCC Tony continues to feed my addiction with all the beautiful new variations they are putting out, not to mention the beautiful Stag model he bombed me with.
Now that you've done went and stoked my OCD, I may have to be on the lookout for that missing Bourbon Bone to complete the set.

BTW... Have you had any luck finding the Bora Bora Blue to complete your beautiful Beaver Creek Barlow set?

In his own thread Scale Military requested suggestions for buying or making a less expensive alternative for a GEC 54 cigar shaped jack knife. He wrote he is considering rehandling a substitute knife with micarta to match the GEC he wants. A Camillus 23 and a Briarpatch Jack were suggested alternatives.

I've carried my Briarpatch Jack quite a bit. I do not know what you want to know about it so I'll make a few random comments. It has a long clip point opposite a lamb's foot. My first choice for a name describing it is muskrat, second choice moose. Since its lamb's foot is most similar to a Wharncliffe perhaps it's an improved or Hawbaker muskrat. However, there is no definition of jack knife so Jack is not wrong. The Briarpatch Jack has only been made with one type of side covers, smoky grey smooth bone. They look some what like campfire smoke. I view replacing nicely finished bone with any synthetic as a down grade but they are affordable enough to customize to your taste. Briarpatch Jacks are too new for there to be an my established used price but my experience was used U.S. Camillus 23s were less expensive. Camillus also had an economy line, their Camco brand. A Camco built on the 23 frame might make a good inexpensive knife to rebuild. Camillus' standard carbon steel was 1095. Their standard stainless was 440A. The Briarpatch Jack's harder D2 almost has enough chromium to be defined as stainless. Preference in blade steel can be important.

I jumped into the pool ... very impressed with the fit and finish of this Rosecraft single blade trapper. Here's a summary ...

- Zero gaps in the spring/liners
- Half stop is crisp as can be, pleasing snap closed
- Factory edge grind is truly impressive - I don't think I could Lansky it any sharper - grinds are perfectly centered on each side of the blade ... I just mention this to say this is EXPONENTIALLY better than the last few late model Case knife grinds I've seen which should have never left the factory - IMHO this is the best example of attention to detail on the Rosecraft knife - I'd like to buy a beer to whomever ground the blade - they know what they're doing
- Shield inlay is amazing
- G10 (micarta ?) sides are fitted perfectly - no high spots
- Blade centers spot-on when closed in the frame
- Nail nick is nicely cut/ground
- Pins are perfectly flush with the sides - hey GEC - THAT's how you do it
- Swedge is a nice touch - well done

Only thing I'm not crazy about is the single groove in the bolster ... looks chinsey like alot of the other Chinese makers today. A simple plain bolster would have separated the brand from the rest of the pack.

Looking forward to seeing how the D2 holds up. Highly recommend ...

The RoseCraft Barren Fork Jack Blue Denim Micarta is a one-bladed square-end jack pattern that features a 2.9” 14C28N classic clip point blade with a brushed satin finish, long pull, half-stop and heavy swedging. It has blue denim Micarta covers with brushed stainless steel bolsters, liners, and nickel silver pins. It carries the RoseCraft Diamond shield. This is the first offering from RoseCraft with 14C28N stainless steel. It's 3.625” closed, 6.5” overall, and weighs just 2.8oz. This pattern was inspired by a very old NON-XLL pattern by Joseph Allen & Sons of Sheffield and re-imagined by Andy Armstrong.

Why 14C28N Steel?

Our customers asked for a stainless steel, and 14C28N fit that bill perfectly. It's a stainless steel with high corrosion resistance which means you don't have to be as careful about getting it completely dry like you might with D2.

Another release of this knife is coming in February, in "Red Jigged Bone" ... I will have more than 6 of these in stock(see second pic).
