Re: THE W & H CO + USA + NEWARK NJ = Whitehead & Hoag.
This morning, my visit to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, two blades, two tang stamps, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, advertising, pocket knife. Both the main blade and the secondary blade tang stamps are the curved or arched style, WITHOUT the USA in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W. & H. CO. (over) NEWARK, N.J." The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "THE W. & H. CO. (over) NEWARK, N.J." The main handle side says, "SCOTTISH UNION & NATIONAL - INSURANCE COMPANY - HARTFORD, CONN." and also has a "Coat Of Arms" or "Crest" type of logo or emblem. The other handle side says, "1824-ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY-1924" This is my twelfth, W & H pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, product, organization, event, etc. My other eleven, "SCOTTISH UNION" pocket knives, have ALL been previously and individually posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. The secondary blade does have a WEAK half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did need a bit of cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

The other handle side says, "THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY - HARTFORD, CONN.-TICKET DEPARTMENT" This is my sixth W & H pocket knife that advertises this particular company, business, organization, product, event, etc. INCLUDING THIS POCKET KNIFE, I now have a total of fourteen pocket knives that advertise THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY, HARTFORD CONN., TICKET DEPARTMENT. SIX pocket knives have "W & H" tang stamps. THREE pocket knives have "L F & C" tang stamps. TWO pocket knives have "MERIDEN" tang stamps. TWO pocket knives have "ROBESON" tang stamps, and ONE pocket knife has "HARRISON BROS" tang stamps. My other thirteen, "THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY " pocket knives, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a WEAK half stop. The secondary blade does have a GOOD opening snap. Not too recently, my visit to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. The tang stamp is the curved or arched style, WITH the USA in the middle. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK, NJ" The main handle side says, "BROWNING KING & CO." and has a logo on the left side. The other handle side says, "PAT. PEND." just below the loop or ring. This is my fifth, W & H pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, product, event, organization, etc. My other four, BROWNING KING & CO. pocket knives, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. There is a DIFFERENCE between THIS posted, BROWNING KING & COMPANY pocket knife, and my other four, BROWNING KING & COMPANY pocket knives (SEE THE LAST PICTURE BELOW). The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did need cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Great post, Skip, and a very nice group of knives. I am glad you referenced your earlier post because I had missed it. Upon seeing the October post, I did a little searching to see where their St Louis location had been. They were evidently in 2 or 3 different buildings in St Louis, and after moving from one, it was subsequently occupied by Simmons hdwe (Keen Kutter).New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 8:00 pm

Re: THE W & H CO + USA + NEWARK NJ = Whitehead & Hoag.
A couple of days ago, my visit to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is an UNBRANDED, one blade, no tang stamp, 2 1/2" closed (NOT including the loop or ring), all metal, advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. There is the slight possibility that this blade might be a replacement blade. The tang stamp, if there was one, is missing. However, I am 99.999% sure, that this pocket knife, is a COMPLETE, "W & H" advertising pocket knife. The main handle side says, "FRED MEDART MFG. CO. - ST. LOUIS" The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. More than likely, this is my third, W & H fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, product, organization, event, etc. My other two W & H, "FRED MEDART MFG. CO." pocket knives, have both been previously posted, under this topic or thread. Unlike my other two W & H, "FRED MEDART MFG. CO." pocket knives, this "FRED MEDART MFG. CO." pocket knife has brass colored handles. In fact, this is my ONLY W & H(?) pocket knife, with THIS particular body style or type, that has brass colored handles. The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Now for something a little different.....AGAIN.
This morning, my trip to the post office produced this, manufactured by THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG COMPANY, advertising, pinback button. This is my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. This pinback button also became the latest example to be added to my, made by THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG COMPANY, cutlery or knife, advertising collection. It is a pinback button advertising "DIAMOND EDGE TOOLS AND CUTLERY" It measures 7/8" in diameter. It has the complete, intact, pin. It has the original, complete, manufacturer back paper. Although it is obviously NOT a tang stamped WHITEHEAD & HOAG advertising pocket knife, it is definitely a knife or cutlery related item, manufactured by THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG COMPANY. My other, manufactured by THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG COMPANY, cutlery or knife advertising items, have ALL been previously, individually posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. You can view these items, as a group, posted back on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. This pinback button is in VERY GOOD condition. This pinback button did NOT require any cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is a W & H, one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/32" closed, all metal, advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It has the curved or arched style of tang stamp, WITH the USA in the center. The main blade front tang stamp says, "THE W & H CO (over) USA (over) NEWARK, N.J." The main handle side says, "CHESTER M. CLOUD - METROPOLITAN AGENT - AUTOMOBILE DEPT." The other handle side says, "HOME INSURANCE CO. N.Y. - THE STANDARD ACCIDENT INS. CO. - 68 MAIDEN LANE N.Y. CITY." I screwed up the count on these CHESTER M. CLOUD pocket knives. This is my fifth W & H, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife, that advertises this particular company, business, product, event, etc. My other four CHESTER M. CLOUD pocket knives were ALL previously posted under this topic or thread. Three of the five, CHESTER M. CLOUD pocket knives, have the address as 63 MAIDEN LANE. Two of the five, CHESTER M. CLOUD pocket knives, have the address as 68 MAIDEN LANE. The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket did NOT require any cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
