Found this pocket knife with Sterling silver spoons. How old and is it silver?

Post by SkynyrdTim1962 »

My main hobby is metal detecting, but I figured you guys would be the place to go for information on pocket knives. I recently found this pocket knife wrapped up with some of my late relative's Sterling silver utensils. The silverware is from the late 1800's to early 1900's, so I'm guessing this knife is at least that old. No markings on the blade at all. I did figure out that it is probably a fruit knife, but I'd like to know how old it is and maybe who made it? It rings up as 80 on my AT Pro metal detector, so the case should be silver. The blade is definitely steel. I did clean it with silver polish. Hope that wan't a bad thing to do! Any help would be appreciated.

I’ve seen that same unmarked art deco fruit knife pattern before but not without a seed pick blade like your knife. Hard to say much about it without any identifying marks. Cool looking design.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Thanks for the input, guys. If I can find them, I'm going to post my box full of pocket knives that I've found metal detecting over the years. Should be a lot of rusty heartbreakers in the bunch! I find coins and relics from the 1700's and up, so some of them could be really old. Just hope I didn't toss them...
