Buck 106 hunters axe?

are? On this in a pawn shop today. Looks unused, in the box with all paperwork. Anyone have an approx value? Don't wanna throw it in the hunt bag if it has value to collectors.

Buck stopped making the 106 Hunter's Axe in 2001. There were many different versions to this axe. If you could provide the catalogue #, date stamp and/or photos of the stamps, I could narrow the history of your particular model down a bit more. What is labeled on the end of the box?

The tang stamp indicates a 1988 DOM. Nice set!

What you have is a 1988 Model 106 Hunters Axe, Catalogue #368, which is a highly collectible Buck Hunters Axe. The handle is impregnated Birch wood.

Here's a bit more history regarding your model / year:

"During its lifespan, from 1980 through 1993, Buck only made from about 1000 to 1500 units a year, (13000 to 19500 total through those 13 years) (catalogue number 368), making this a somewhat challenging model to collect. From 1994 until 1997, Buck did not have an axe in its line, but due to the many customer requests, and the acquisition of the laser which greatly aided in the production process, the axe was reintroduced in early 1997. This new axe, now called the Campers Axe, was almost 2 inches longer than its predecessor and it was thicker."

Dealers price for your 1988 model in 1988 was $46.00.

IMHO, with what appears to be a MINT 106 that is 32 years old, I would NOT want to use this fine piece of history, especially when one does not know just how many more are out there in the condition yours is in. As to value...it's hard to say. There is another one just like yours on ebay, except it's a 1992 date stamp that the seller is asking $395.00 for. There are other sellers selling older models (two liners) of the axe with the black phenolic handles for less. You own 32 years of history, so you'll need to determine within yourself whether your very nice pawn shop find is worth using or putting away.

Thank you for the excellent info on this. This site has been more than amazing with all the info I have gleamed from it and its members. I buy things that I think have value from pawn shops and thrift stores (not to mention goodwill and flea markets) all the time with the intent to resell and pay for my youngest sons Autism therapy. Even though I am not a collector I do believe history should be preserved and placed in the right hands to keep for future generations. I will probably end up selling this at some point in the near future.

I also have one of these with the wooden handle but it's stamped as a "106+".

Does anyone know what the plus sign means?

I have not been able to find another one like this.

I've seen plenty of the 106's, but no other 106+'s.

The + is the date code for 1991

An early 106 Sportsmans axe.

Buck still offers a version of the 106, in the Compadre series.
