I was taking photos of the new DFKB release for the dealers, and thought this variety of wood handles would fit in well in this thread.

I have a question for the forum. This split back Schrade whittler is the start of my decades of knife collecting. Was always curious as to the type of wood. Sure doesn't look like any other wood scaled knives I have. Has a reddish color.

That's a beauty, 3030! My guess is Cocobolo. Schrade used that on handles a good bit back then. It is a brownish red for sure..

A few more from the China cabinet. First is a rather large folder found in an old hand made wooden carpenter chest full of tools of the same vintage. The second little folder is a cheap boys knife by W.R. Case and Sons.

Looks like a laminated wood product that Schrade called Wondawood.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Looks like a laminated wood product that Schrade called Wondawood. You might be able to see some of the lamination layers looking at the edges of the material.

I love this pattern. This was a CHRISTmas gift that went from a good friend, to my wife and then to me. I have no idea what wood it is, but it looks good. If anyone knows what wood Schrade used I would appreciate you letting me know.

Great electricians knife. I just added my Schrade TL-29 to this thread. Probably one of my favorite patterns.
