Simple pouch sheath

I had to make a very simple wet molded pouch sheath for a knife I made for a client. They requested a hole in the bottom in case it needed cleaned out. So I did that but not sure its useful. Fairly simple design here and no fancy on it per request. Keep making folks.

I am a fan of that type of simple sheath. I recently made this one for a D'Estaing folding knife.

I wipe some oil on the blade, then wrap the entire knife in cling plastic wrap. Wet the sheath just enough so it becomes somewhat soft and can be formed around the handle and blade of the knife with the fingers. Withdraw the knife and put the sheath up to dry naturally.

I use the same process as olde Cutler says below.

Note has to be veg tan leather to mold. Also if you carve or tool it first eet molding can mess that up. But plain leather works nice.

The handle is very thick, hollowed out stag to conceal the blade locking mechanism.

Thanks for sharing the knife pics! That is a very interesting design for that knife. Not sure ive seen any quite like it.

[OLDE CUTLER]

Supposedly the design comes from an officer in the French navy 200 years or so ago. He wanted a dual purpose knife that could be used in the folded position for ordinary tasks such as cutting meat. But when he got into various ports of the world that were not as "civilized" he sometimes needed a weapon, which he had by unlocking the mechanism and folding out a short sword blade. The D'Estaing.
