Questioning a Tidioute knife on eBay

I hope this link works. I have been studying knives from Tidioute for more than forty years and have never seen one as an advertisement, let alone a metal handle. I hate to say it's been altered until I learn more, but I'm very suspicious. Does anyone have some additional input? I'm always eager to learn this history.

Stamps look good to me. Hard to say whether those blade started out in that frame.

I agree the blades are correctly stamped but I've never seen that style of knife from the early 1900s Tidioute knives I question that it advertised on a knife back then. I think I will research the company name and see when they were around

I found an old post that says Camillus used this brand of English steel, and it was in the early 1900s. It raises the question of whether Tidioute used their steel, too. Although I've never seen this knife before, it may be legitimate. Time to dig deeper

I have seen and owned knives with the tang stamp WARDLOW KNIFE CO. I have been told that they were made by Walden, maybe for EC Simmons.

Seems that Wardlow's was a brand name for steel used by a number of different knife companies, back in the day when blades were hammer-forged. I have seen the name used in ads by a number of the older companies.

Could you share that post regarding Camillus using Wardlow steel ? Had heard from old timer the same thing but haven’t been able to confirm.
As a collector of 1950 and older Camillus would really appreciate it.

Robeson used Wardlow Steel and had one or more nickel-silver handled knives advertising that fact.

That, however, is not one I've seen.

The number on the main blade is suspicious to me. I’ve NEVER seen that on a Tidioute knife ? Is this blade a second used by someone else or a refit?

Normally the number 2 stamped over the Union stamp would mean the knife was designated as 2nd quality for some reason. Can't say that I see much wrong with the knife as far as authenticity but at $75 plus shipping I think an offer anywhere close to that number would be quite generous for such a knife. I believe that Wardlow Steel is more of a statement than an advertisement.
