As per the seller “ This slim lockback was made for Gutmann Explorer in Seki, Japan circa 1980s by G. Sakai”

I have a very similar model that was made in Japan but I don’t know if it was Seki, Japan or not.

An update: I’ve been carrying this lockback for a couple of weeks now and it’s been impressive. No gaps, well centered, opens and closes smooth and tight. It’s very sharp. Typical Seki high quality.

Two great workhorse knives. I’ve admired Cold Steel knives for some time now but never owned one. I’ve got my eye on certain ones that run upwards of 500, the custom series knives that they produced. Someday I will bite the bullet.
That Vaquero is one that I could have used a lot last summer trying to clear weeds from fence rows, that serrated edge looks like it could cut anything. Nice combo.

Picked up a few new ones. An A.G. Russell lockback with Quince burl wood handles. Some of the best looking Quince I’ve seen.
I believe these were made by G. Sakai in Seki Japan.
Coincidentally, I also picked up a G. Sakai lockback that looks almost exactly like a SOG sidewinder, which G. Sakai also produced. I use to avoid all partially serrated blades but I discovered how useful they are last summer trying to cut through overgrown weeds with thick stalks.
Both knives are extremely well made and the G.Sakai with rubber handles is built like a tank.
Both have tight run ups.

I saw this Smith and Wesson advertised locally. Nice tapered tang. Great surprise as it wasn’t shown in the seller’s photos.

Andrew, that is a very nicely made knife. It speaks of quality. I like the red liners and that tapered tang is a real eye catcher. Having a date on the blade is always helpful. Great pick up.

It needs a sheath as it didn’t come with one. I’ve repurposed a Fallkniven Kolt sheath temporarily.

Can’t tell you for sure who made that. I checked the archives for Master Hattori and they don’t list or show any knives made for S&W by him. My first impression was either Master Seizo Imai or M Tak Fukuta. I lean more to Imai based on others I have and have seen, but I’ve been fooled before. I sure wish there was a website that had all these knives made by these knife masters in Japan. My purpose in this thread was to help document as many as could be for future reference, but when it comes to finding that information, it simply isn’t out there and the people who know, won’t share it. I know, I’ve asked.

The Silver Falcon arrived. It is made in China however, so it’s in that thread.
I do have this to add. If I remember correctly I bought two of these. I cleaned this up yesterday. I always thought it was just a small made in Japan novelty. Was it really made by Moki?

Nice little knife. I used to have one in Green Malachite. It was small but very nice.

And yes, those are indeed made by Moki.

Thanks Rick. I saw yours while searching. It is indeed a well made knife. I just don’t enjoy such small knives. For a point of information I found a way to clean and remove light scratches. My wife has a rather large emery board for her nails but the other side is for buffing. I ran the blade and the handle across the buffing side and it improved the look of the knife immensely.

Nice addition Fingers. Those Lakota Teals are a very handy knife to have. I like that you can sit on edge with the blade facing down. It does save time to be able to pick it up like that when working on detailed tasks.
I will keep that technique in mind the next time I’m trying to get the scratches off of a metal handled knife. The way they scratch so easily keeps me from collecting metal handled knives. I like for the handles to look good no matter how old the knife is and metal just doesn’t hold up to that. Scratches too easily in the pocket with keys. Thanks for passing that tip along.

I added this Hiro knife to my store recently and realized I should post it here also. Hiro has been around for a long time in Seki Japan and Master Masui, who founded the company, has been making knives since 1960. This lockback was made in the early 1990’s and has all the high quality features you find in the finer Japanese made knives. Really tight run up, solid feel in hand and very practical for using. The checkered grips really make this a great knife for skinning.

Picked this up from Mark the other day and it’s fresh out of the mailbox.

Al Mar Denali from 1994. I believe 1994 was the last year of production for the Denali. I’m posting in this sub forum because it’s unsure if this was made before or after the company transitioned from G. Sakai to Moki. Al Mar passed away in 1992. The transition to Moki production took place shortly after that but I am unsure exactly when.

As I understand it, these were awarded to contestants of the 1994 Practical Shooting Nationals. Whoever got this one never or rarely took it out of the box.
