Late to the party,but I had this old Valley Forge knife for a while and came across these posts so thought I would throw it out there. I’m not sure how old this might be, but if Boker moved the factory from Newark NJ in 1916, does that mean if the tang is marked Newark NJ it was made prior to 1916? Seems logical, but I know logic cannot be assumed with tang stamps annd whether they are an indicator of when a knife was made, just a guide.

This Valley Forge barehead knife which looks to be pre 1916, has a super strong half stop on both blades and I noticed that each blade has a bevel on the top of each blade…not sharpened but instead of being flat across it has a bevel, and it looks to be made that way…(see pictures). Is there a name for this treatment and does it serve a purpose? Certainly not economical to add this step and I’m wondering if this was common on very old knife blades. This old valley forge knife is very well made and the blades do not look like they have gotten much use and these old jigged bone handles are nice except on one end the bone is lighter colored as if maybe it had a bolster at one point but the other side is red all across so I don’t know what might have caused that handle end to discolor.

The bone on that end was broken off probably from being dropped. It looks like someone repaired it using some type of epoxy and jigged it to match the original jigged bone handles.
