The ol' rusty horseshoe setting has kinda become your trademark, T-Dog Seems to work pretty well with a wide variety of knives and your German Herbertz with its aged brown micarta handle is no exception. Because I seem to be fixated on lighting I especially like the light/dark contrast in your second pic The smooth silver metal blade has an almost ethereal glow against the dark-colored rock in the background.

I agree with Q, your horseshoe shots are your trademark. All of your desert backgrounds are beautiful. I am a bit partial to that scenery.

You sure do have some photogenic wood in your neck of the....woods, Squach Two excellent pics of your Stag Weidmannsheil. The first one with the light-colored wood in the top half and total black anchoring the bottom with the knife intersecting/connecting both halves makes for a nicely balanced photo. The second one has a lot going on, color, texture, light/shadow and multi-planar mixture of surfaces creating depth and perspective. Beautiful, complex background that perfectly complements the knife without obscuring it. Brilliant

Billy and I just got back from a walk on the wild side. It was very windy and that made the chilly temps feel much colder. Here are the pics I took. The last one was just because there was a very unusual lookin fungus, one that I'm not familiar with.

My foray in to the garden this morning resulted in these pics of a knife I selected deliberately to match the ACSB Spearpoint theme of the 2025 AAPK Club Knife that is starting to arrive to members' homes this week (still waiting for mine to arrive).

Billy and I just got back from a walk on the wild side. It was very windy and that made the chilly temps feel much colder. Here are the pics I took. The last one was just because there was a very unusual lookin fungus, one that I'm not familiar with.

... It appears that there is a fungus among us! ..... Man oh man Sas! You are killing me with the #23!!! I love the #23, but with stag it can't get any better (I have one in ABCS... or something like that ..... )....

Thanks GSP. The sambar stag was done by fellow forum member Muskrat Man. I have several 23s in my collection and some other large cigar jacks. This is a crummy pic but it'll do - from top to bottom - Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co., Ka-Bar, Remington, Boker USA, Tidioute/GEC, Camillus, and Queen.

BTW, after touching that fungus I can now communicate telepathically with dead philosophers. Socrates wants to know who spiked his tea.

Mahalo, T-Dog. That last pic was my favorite of the bunch. I was especially pleased with the effect created by the reflection of the grass on the blade. But, when you compare it to the one just before, it's interesting to note how different the handle appears in the full sun; almost looks like a totally different knife. I wonder what this says about our perceptions of "reality", i.e., are they reliable? And by shedding more light on them, do we see things better, as they truly are, or does more light simply alter our perceptions and thereby create an entirely different "reality"? I wonder what Socrates would have to say about that?

Reality itself is an illusion. There is no shadow without the light. But how can there be shadows when reality itself is made of light? The Maya were aware of the nature of reality. Coincidentally, in Vedic scripture Maya translates roughly to "illusion", but there's an ocean of space and differences between the two cultures. Or was there?

... Now the thread has transcended my feeble knowledge of the world .... I feel as if I have been living in a dark cave, bound to a wall by my neck and ankle, unable to look around or behind me... and unable to tell what is real and what is just a shadow on the wall .... ..... AND NO pocketknife to help me escape!!!

Don't worry, T-Dog, and try not to overthink it. Life is nothing but shadows and illusions, smoke and mirrors, nothing is real, it's nothing to get hung about....strawberry fields forever.

Whenever I venture out from my home I find myself obsessively scouting potential photography locations and thinking of which knife from my collection would be the best one for each setting. A few weeks ago I discovered an old cenotaph in a small park that I've driven past at least a thousand times but never stopped at. I don't read Japanese but I believe it's a memorial to the Japanese immigrants who died working in the Hawaiian sugar cane fields in the late 1800s and early 1900s. When I saw it, I immediately thought of a made-in-Japan Parker knife I own that I felt would be the perfect knife to photograph there. So, I put the knife in my vehicle and have been carting it around for the past few weeks until I finally got an opportunity to stop at the park again for my planned photo shoot. Most of my pics just didn't turn out that well for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the size of the monument made it difficult/impossible to get a clear, in focus photo of both the cenotaph and the knife (as seen in my first pic). But, I got a couple that were kinda OK.
