I like BPS. Reminds me of Old Hickory knives.

Our kids gave me this same knife. I am fairly impressed with it, and it looks good.

That makes three of us now with Ukrainian blades. Nothing fancy, just a solid knife that will do the job. I like the fact that they come with a leather sheath. So many knives today come with plastic/kydex sheaths and I don't like them at all. I'd much rather have canvas or leather.

I said that the BPS knife reminded me of Old Hickory knives which were made by Ontario Knife Co. (OKC) and this is why. This OKC field knife is very similar to the BPS.

I’ve bought a coupla of them over the past year, and can’t seem to hold on to them?!
I pull it out to cut an apple, or carve a marshmallow stick for the fire—and whoever I’m with who sees it, wants one immediately. So I end up gifting them out—and then I don’t have one.
Rinse. Repeat.
Oh well, it’s easy to gift, ‘cause it’s so reasonably priced, and a great little performer that truly outclasses knives that are three times the price.

I agree. BPS is a great "bang for the buck" knife. In keeping with what I said about Old Hickory knives here is one very similar in size, price, and quality.

Has anyone else noticed that when TV programs re-enact crimes, like Forensic Files for instance, they tend to use props that aren't necessarily the same as the actual evidence? If there is a "large hunting knife" involved they almost invariably show one of two particular knives, The Ka-Bar fighting knife or the Buck 119 Special no matter what the original knife may have been. I wonder what the manufacturers think of that. Maybe I just watch too much crime TV.

Okay, this is starting to get weird. I was watching another program about ranchers in Montana and Wyoming who are supplementing their income by searching for and finding dinosaur fossils on their property which are pretty valuable. At least three of the individuals depicted finding fossils were using Buck 119s to probe, scrape and uncover evidence of a fossil bed. I'm going to have to start lining my hat with aluminum foil, I think they're reading my thoughts.

CxIII, thanks! ... I don't think the wood is Desert Ironwood, I have a large collection of Desert Ironwood carvings and I don't think that the handles are Desert Ironwood. I look forward to seeing yours on a knife that you have made, it really is a beautiful type of wood.
