Fighting Rooster's are some of the best pocket knifes made. At least till the celluloid ones start gassing. Lol

I got a couple Fight N Roosters for sell in my store. If the celluloid scares you like it does me you could get them rehandled and have 2 beautiful knives. I started my little store a few weeks ago and haven't sold anything and am beginning to wonder if I ever will so come on and be my first customer. If you took them both I could knock off 5 bucks per knife. I don't mean to be pushy I just saw that you like those kind of knives and I have a couple I am selling. I agree with what you said and I will never understand how in 89-90 when my knives were made that they were still using celluloid when they knew the problems with the material.

The rough black looks like worm groove, if it is i don't recall seeing that before. But sure as hell is nice.

I picked up a Canoe also. It's a good EDC. It isn't quite a pronounced as the Soddy, but it's not too bad..

Pretty simple decision for me. buck fixed blades cant be beat and GEC folders are 100% top quality. Individual models and or items can be argued I suppose.

In terms of high quality fit and finish ... the handful of GEC's I have are better than any Case I own. I loves me some Cases and have many ... but to the discerning eye, GEC's are the best currently "mass" produced knife I know of (although I do wish they would do better on the random depth of their rivets) ...

As someone who usually hand-selects before purchase I've seen some I consider to be rejects from most brands. I have rejected a few Case's for weak snap, and a couple of Bökers. Of the 20 or so GECs I own, 3 have problems with weak snap, one of those has blade wobble (those are some of my very few online purchases).

Can't recall ever culling a Buck or a Moore Maker but those are relatively small sample sizes. Moore Maker does sell some cosmetic seconds occasionally through a 3rd party, but last I visited with them they do incoming inspection and if it doesn't meet their criteria they don't sell it.

In the first half to two thirds of the 20th century quality was a given. Sadly, of factory-made knives over the last 40 years if you haven't seen a bad one you just haven't looked at many. JMO

I don't think I have the foundation to determine the best factory made knife today. I would want to establish which factory brand is the most consistent in offering quality knives. Perhaps GEC? But I don't know.

The brand that has most often delighted me is no longer with us: Bulldog. These Solingen-made knives have never disappointed me. I have about 80 of them

. The only defect I ever encountered on two of them was a minor bit of blade rub. I purchased unused old stock.

I probably have over 200 knives, Buck, Case, schrade (the old ones) Victorinox, puma, (1) Randall, Uncle Henry (again the old ones) Gerber, Kershaw and probably some I can’t recall right now. These days I favor just the original Case trapper, a simple knife for a simple man.

"The best knife" all depends upon what you want to use it for. I prefer a medium-to-large Stockman, but not because I think that it is the "best". I simply like them.
But if I need to remove a broken key from a lock, I have an old worn Queen that works wonders.
If I am skinning an animal, I want one of my many folding hunters or a fixed blade.
If I am picking out a splinter, I use my tiny Cattaraugus whittler or the Boker Congress that my Father-in-law gave me.
If I need to turn a screw, the best knife is an electrician's knife or a Swiss Army knife.
Sometimes my Leatherman knife is the best for a tough job.
If I am cutting caulk off of brick at work, the "best" knife is a Chinese-made knife that I keep in my truck, and consider to be disposable.
If I want to whittle, I use the Case Trapper that my Dad gave me.

There are a lot of different "bests", because there are a lot of different uses for a knife.

Well, the more I delve into this topic, the more I like old Remington 20-40s and old knives in general))
Of the modern ones, Buck 110 and 532 and Spyderco Native

I don't have much knowledge about knives compared to you guys. I mean compared to the regular person I know a little but you guys teach me so much and I get see and learn about knives that I would never have thought of or sometimes don't even know the knife company existed at all. I appreciate everyone's posts. The only problem with this website is that it makes you want to go buy some knives and I am too broke right now to do much shopping. . I've never owned a cattleman knife but I want one now. Hope everyone is having a good day I just wanted to thank everyone for posting on this thread I started. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment reading these.
