The persimmons I grow are a Japanese variety. They do not have the tannins that make our native persimmons so mouth puckering when green. That said, the one I ate today would have been better after a few more days on the tree. The thing about growing persimmons is that they are the number one favorite food of Opossums. So if I wait until the possums decide they are ripe I will not get any!

I forgot to include my Garlic Chives in my post above. They make a great topping for soup. I realize that my harvest efforts do not quite equal those of the real gardeners who grow veggies.

Mel, don’t think I’ve ever had a green persimmon, much less the Japanese variety you’re growing. Now, chives in soup doesn’t sound too bad. BTW, like the knife, too!
