Is this Columbia River knife considered an auto or an assisted opening? It fires hard when the black button is pressed, but is so similar from a look and feel perspective to an assisted opening knife that I wonder.

Your knife uses the Walker Blade Lock which is a positive lock system that keeps the blade locked in the open and closed positions. The mechanism operates with a spring-loaded tab behind the thumbstud on the blade. As you know, to open or close the knife, depress the thumbstud while pushing forward or back to rotate the blade in place. Not an auto.

It doesn’t take a lot of forward push for the blade to snap open strongly. Interesting design. Thanks for your expertise.

There were auto versions of these made, I have the clip blade version.
