Not too recently, this pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to get this particular pocket knife. But, it did get added to my general, FOREIGN BORN, pocket knife accumulation. It is a HUMPHREYS, two blades (the secondary blade is broken), two tang stamps, a main blade etch, 3 9/32" closed, one spring, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "HUMPHREYS (over) -RADIANT- (over) SHEFFIELD (over) ENGLAND" The "ENGLAND" is VERY low on the tang and hidden by the bolster.The broken secondary blade tang stamp says, "ENGLAND" and has a stamped symbol. The main blade front etch says, "STAINLESS STEEL" Despite the broken secondary blade, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. The main blade and the secondary blade stub needed cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Not too recently, my trip to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a HARRISON BROS & HOWSON, two blades, four tang stamps, 3 1/8" closed, one spring, all metal, advertising, pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "HARRISON (over) BROS (over) & HOWSON" The main blade back tang stamp says, "SHEFFIELD (over) ENGLAND" The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "CUTLERS (over) TO HIS (over) MAJESTY" The secondary blade back tang stamp has the CROWN symbol or logo and says, "ALPHA" The main handle side has an embossed image of a train. The other handle side says, "THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY" I do NOT know for sure if there was a second line of advertising on this handle side. If there was, it most likely said "HARTFORD, CONN.-TICKET DEPARTMENT." It does look like something may have been "removed." There appears to be some remains of whatever it was, at the center pin. However, I can not make out what the remains are. The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a half stop. The secondary blade does have an OK opening snap. The secondary blade does have an OK closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did require some minor cleaning.

This pocket knife arrived, NOT too recently, in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. This pocket knife now becomes my most recent post, under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. However, it DEFINITELY turned out to be a keeper. It did get added to my general, "foreign born", pocket knife accumulation. It is an Imperial, two blades, one tang stamp, 3 3/8" closed, two springs, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "Imperial (with the crown) (over) England" The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. The secondary blade does have a WEAK half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. It needed minimal cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

The 400-year old metalworker's guild that promotes Sheffield products is called the Company of Cutlers of Hallamshire (that being the ancient name for the Sheffield area). Every year it elects a Master Cutler who is a prominent business person from among the hundreds of companies and organizations that make up the guild. That person is honored at an annual black tie banquet and is expected to spend the year promoting Sheffield and its products.

Tradition calls for the recipient to commemorate his or her election with a pocket knife, and the knife below is the Master Cutler's knife from 1950 marking the election of George Wilton Lee, who was the president of Arthur Lee & Co., the family's steel business. George Ibberson & Co. made the knife. The handles are sterling silver and are engraved with the guild's coat-of-arms and a facsimile of Lee's signature. The last photo shows Lee's portrait that hangs in Cutlers Hall in Sheffield.

I love this kind of post and the history behind it, great post and a beautiful knife!

Here are two great little Sheffield knives. The first one is from R. (Richard)Groves & Sons Limited 1770-1911 per Goins 1998. Its marked Teacher 1830. R. Groves was well known for making saws and tools and they are very sought after by collectors. I can only assume that the handle mateial is Sterling but that it is an educated guess based on the age and style. It has only had some superficial cleaning and some oil but for its age, this ole knife has got a lot of snap. The second one is nice little Sterling SilverFruit Knife made by J.Y. Cowlihaw (John Yoeman) 1853-1940. This one has no snap at all but its a beautiful little ole knife from a forgotten era. Enjoy!

The main blade front tang stamp says, "I-XL (over) GEORGE (over) WOSTENHOLM (over) SHEFFIELD (over) ENGLAND" The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. The secondary blade does have a WEAK half stop. The secondary blade does have an OK opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT require cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is. My pictures do NOT capture the ABSOLUTE BEAUTY of this pocket knife.
