Hi there-

Recently picked this up. Curious if there is a correct name for this type of knife. I am probably used to "nicknames" like Trapper when looking at the basic shape and size of the handles but realize there could be another more correct way to identify this knife? Let me know. Sportsman, Hunter, Trapper or maybe something else. Unfortunately the snap is almost non on the main blade and it's a bit short but I really think it's cool and beautiful. Anyone know anything about it? I know Napanoch ended in about 1919 and Winchester bought them or absorbed them. Thanks

No book,just know what it is.I've had several Challenge, Keen Kutters and others.WWI.

Wow. Those are Fantastic. Now they look like they're from the same maker. They wouldn't be though right? Challenge was a Manufacture I am pretty sure. Would it be the gov. designed what they needed and Challenge and Napanoch just produced? Super cool knives you have there. Better shape than mine. Thanks for showing them.

Yes,they would have been made the same as Napanoch, Keen Kutter etc.The WWI navy knives were all made the same also.There were at least 17 different makers of those and the only difference was the bone on them.

I have a couple marked by Adolf Kastor, bad picture but all I have.

These don't have a bolster on the end, otherwise the same.

I have one of these by Challenge. I never knew that it was a medic/nurse knife until I saw this thread. Now I understand the purpose of the corkscrew and of course the spear, but can someone tell me what the thought was behind the saw blade on a medical knife? It’s not a bone saw is it?

A beautiful thread of old naps. On page 7, pile driver posted a knife with file, scissors, and a bail. This curley cutlery co is very similar to that knife. It has been noted on here in a thread about curley that they were possibly connected to american shear and knife. I think it would be a Safe bet to say that this example is made by napanoch with a few subtle differences and probably the reason why it has a curley cutlery patent.
