Hobo Knife (Japan)

I recently picked up this hobo knife to add to my collection. It's the first for me, and I was more intrigued by the challenge that was presented in restoring it than I was the knife itself. It had quite a bit of corrosion/rust and dirt. But for $10, I couldn't pass it up. Not knowing much about these types of tools, I've noticed many of them have a saw blade. This particular one doesn't have one, and there doesn't seem to be any indication that it did at any time. Were there some made without them? Your feedback is welcome. Thanks in advance.

I had to get mine out and look. Mine does have the saw blade, right next to the bottle and can opener. I have seen these called a Mambro. What is the closed length of yours?

Yes, I noticed that. I was just curious if they were produced without them or just missing.

Mitsoboshi must have made TONS of variations on this one. I've seen several different sizes (from like 3 closed all the way up to 6 or 7 inches) and a number tool varations. Also, plastic or bone handles.

Need to get my Dad's out. It's about 5" closed, and has the saw.

So the real question is why a saw blade? cutting wood for your cooking fire? sawing bone on the game you are cooking, or getting through that steak you left going 20 minutes too long? or are you building a spit rotisserie ? Inquisitive minds need to know!
