Flea Market Finds

This last Saturday my Wife & I made our monthly trip to the local flea market. They hold it once a month thru the summer with this being last one for the year so I hoped it would be larger than usual & the sellers would be willing to deal with hopes of not having to carry their inventory home. Happily I was right on both accounts!

The Final Talley:
I ended up with 5 Hen & Rooster folders (4 in boxes) all new by Bertram out of Solingen Germany. The one in the upper top row, right is a one of 250 Presidential kife.
There were a couple of Electrician knives, one by Imperial and one by Colonial.
A Kutmaster Girl Scout Knife with the green handle and bail.
There were 2 Victorinox knives with red handles, one medium size with 2 blades and smaller one with a sissor, blade and nail file/screw driver.
There is a medium sized Wenger Swiss Army with 8 blades/tools & chain attachement.
A Boker USA marked 2 blade pocket knife.
What I beleive (only patent marked, no makers name) is a Colonial Trick/Magic Knife.
An Imperial Ireland single blade (partially serrated) 1998 Ducks Unlimited knife.
A little tiny single bladed (made in china) slip joint with wood handle that was just too cute to leave behind.
Finally a Queen Cutlery (Titusville, PA) 9" Deluxe Carver with what appears to be stag handles and original cardboard sleeve.

I almost missed the Hen & Rooster knives as they were buried under a bunch of other things on one of the sellers tables. The above were purchased from 6 different dealers. All in all a very successful Saturday!

[Modern Slip Joints]

You got that fine Queen carver with plenty of time to get it razor sharp for your holiday turkeys.
Since a #2 Phillips head is the most often used screw driver in houses and there is always an easier to use cork screw near wine I prefer the Phillips head on a SAK. Your new Wenger looks like a great SAK.
Offhand I can only think of one knife that I found at a flea market at a reasonable price. I must live in the wrong area.

Good Finds ! I am a fan of German made Bertram H & R knives, although I have limited myself to collecting on DS (Deer Stag) models. I believe you will be happy with your H & R 's. Want to share the name of the flea market ?

Nice haul. Three really nice canoes! All I ever see at flea market is good knives in terrible condition or gas station knives, I must not be going to the right flea markets

I have no problem sharing, its the flea market in Stillwater, MN but their done till next year. It is very seldom I hit this or any other flea market and fail to find at lease a half dozen that follow me home, but I am kinda an eclectic collector in that if it catches my eye I pick it up. Most knives I find buried in cases under other items like jewelry or coins. Also I have taken to asking dealers if they have any knives, if they don't many times they point me to someone who does. Finally I have a thing about paying the asking price for something {at least most of the time) and find most dealers are willing to adjust their prices substantially if you are buying multiples. The exception to this was the trick/magic knife the dealer told me was "broken" because it wouldn't open and that I could have it for a $1.00.

There you have it, now you know all my tricks, well most of them anyway....
