New York Knife

Post by timdog44 »

I have this beautiful stockman knife. Tang stamp is New York Knife Co Walden. This company has been closed for years. This knife looks to new to be real. Looks like bone handle. Is this real?

I am no expert on New York Knife Company, but that appears to be a recent production knife with deer antler handles, not sambar stag which would have been what NYK would have used for stag handles.
I would speculate it is an SFO made for someone like Smokey Mountain Knife Works. I think it was probably made by Schrade before their closing in 2004. The blades and the pattern all look like Schrade to me. I have seen other knives made by Schrade with the NYK tang stamp, though I have not seen any with deer antler handles. It's quite possible that the handles were added after it left the factory.

Yes; Schrade made several patterns of those in the 1990's for SMKW. Nice stag and high quality.

::hmm:: ...I have one too. I knew it was not original, but I was not sure who had made it. I picked this one up mainly because of the stag scales. It may NOT be original, ::paranoid:: ... but I still like it! ::nod::
