YES! I AM HUMAN!!!
For some strange reason, whenever l log on; even though it recognizes who l am when l go to click on a thread it prompts something that states we are verifying that you are humam and then about a minute later tells me l have passed and l can now post. Has anyone else experienced this? It is becoming a bit annoying.

Yes, and it keeps flashing for about a full minute and apologizes for taking so long. It is nice to know that someone is trying to keep AI from messing with our posts and lives, but it is a little irritating, which helps prove that I'm human.____Dave

Cloudflare verifies you are human to protect AAPK from automated bots, spam, and other malicious activity by ensuring that only legitimate users access our site. This security measure is a proactive step taken by AAPK to safeguard our user data and maintain AAPK’s integrity against threats like DDoS attacks or brute-force login attempts.

Re: YES! I AM HUMAN!!!
Now it comes up every time I change to a different page on AAPK after I'm already signed in, not just when I first go on so I can't go from First Cup Diner to Knife Finds of the Day without waiting for the I am Human thing to go away. I can see it maybe necessary when I sign in but does it have to be every time I go to a different page?____Dave

yes, for the time being, we may be under a DDoS attack or brute-force login attempt right now! Remember, this is not early morning for countries like China and Russia and they are both hard at work trying to infiltrate American technology.

You know we're in a "gotta-have-it-now-instant gratification" world when someone thinks 7 seconds takes minutes.
Hey, if it keeps the site from getting hacked, I'll wait, and wait patiently.

Re: YES! I AM HUMAN!!!
I just thought about Chris Kirk who used to have a knife show and may no longer be with us. "Is that your Chinese junker, Mr. Douglas?"
I think his show was the Hillbilly __________ (something), maybe Happy Hour?

Re: YES! I AM HUMAN!!!
The technologies used for attacking websites like ours are getting quite sophisticated and these sophisticated attacks are becoming more & more common.
The attacks we are most vulnerable to & sometimes experience are DDOS attacks that flood the site with automated bots to slow the site to a crawl. We have put in several mechanisms to reduce the impact & frequency, but sometimes that is not enough.
Yesterday, our standard safeguards were not keeping up and as a last resort, we turn to Cloudflare services to keep the site up.
We expect this "prove you're human" requirement to be temporary, but without it, the site would be down for the most part right now.
Hope this helps clarify the situation.
Best,
Bryan

Re: YES! I AM HUMAN!!!
That's strange the only time it comes up for me is when I fumble finger and hit whoever is posting's name. I guess it's the price we pay for all this technology.
off topic, we had a credit card fraud recently. it's a card that
Is seldom used so the credit card company caught it and notified us, sent us a new card and low and beholded we got a call and it has already been hacked and we've never even used it. I'm saying all this to say this technology crap gonna be the downfall of the world.

Byran was pecking same time I was and when I got through and hit the submit button it popped up.
I noticed yestiddy that things were slow as molasses, figured it might be on my end as our wifi is crazy sometimes.

Re: YES! I AM HUMAN!!!
Thanks to Bryan for proactively taking measures to protect AAPK, and us as members.
Over the past month I’ve had to change the passwords on several apps I use because of “unusual activity”. In both cases I was notified by the company that owns the app. They had locked my account and asked that I change my passwords. They did NOT include any links to access the app. Instead they directed me to go to their app, open it and request a new password using the “forgot my password”.
It’s a PITA but it seems nefarious persons are working hard to steal identities. If having to wait few seconds to get verified as a human protects my information, so be it.

Thanks to all who replied; l thought it was a problem on this end. I do everything on my " DINO THE DINOSAUR FLIP FONE " and have issues with it constantly. Always appreciative of the work required to keep the site running smoothly.

Necessary? Yes.
Is the annoyance minimal compared to the alternative which may include advertising and spam bots infiltrating the site? IMHO, Yes it is.
YMMV.
