Older Gerber lock back emblem removal?

I just picked up this older Gerber from a pawn shop and I’m trying to clean it up but this emblem is kinda a pain to work around and I would like to get rid of it. How are the emblems attached? Also what is this emblem for? Thank you in advance.

That "emblem" is right at your pivot. I don't think you should remove it.

A lot of those Gerbers were sold as retirement gifts or company gifts. I don't know how the emblems were attached, but I'm sure the can be carefully ground or filed off of the frame- if you know what you are doing to match the finish.

Removing the emblem won’t affect the pivot but it will leave an ugly hole and remnants of solder or glue where it was attached.

The emblem is likely a service award as said. Many are 10k or higher gold content and some decorated with the addition of gem stones.

Thank you guys for the information but I was able to remove it and fill in the hole pretty good. Here’s a step by guide of what I did if anyone is interested in doing this.

I put the knife in a vise and used a razor blade to pop the emblem off. It was fairly easy. The emblem was soldered on. There was a hole that had solder in it. I tried scraping it with a small flat head screwdriver but ended up using a very small dremel burr attachment to clear it out. I got a pin that was close to the size of the hole, formed a head on one side, then cut it very small and then tried to shape it as best as possible to the hole. I epoxied the pin in the hole and clamped it for a few hours. I cleaned up the excess epoxy on a fiber wheel. I then proceeded to sand the whole knife starting at 400 grit all the way up to 2000 grit. It’s noticeable but it looks almost like factory. It sits flush and I’m happy with how it turned out. Bonus is the emblem was 10k gold, took it to the pawn shop I bought the knife from and got $20 for it. The knife cost me $15 so I’m in the positive $5.

The pictures don't do it just. It looks much better in person. When I first picked it up the knife was in rough shape and I wish I took a picture. Thank you for the compliments.
