They do make a number of those Heritage units in O gauge. But I prefer the older trains, and the older the better.

I bought a bunch of tools at an estate sale a few years ago and many of the tools were old stamped/marked R.R. tools. A lot were from the Southern Pacific line and some from other lines. I have been going through my tools and pulled this one out and noticed the markings and tried to find a R.R. to match it. The closet that came to it was The Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad* (not an exact match) Ya'll out there is the experts on this sort'a thang, ... anyone have any ideas? Could just a small company (mining?) with nothing to do with R.R.s....


*The Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad was a railroad company that formerly operated in western and north central Pennsylvania and western New York. It was created in 1893 by the merger and consolidation of several smaller logging railroads.[1] It operated independently until 1929, when a majority of its capital stock was purchased by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.

Greetings from Railroad, PA! We had an amazing ride on the NCR today, awesome weather but a little early for the fall foliage. We rode behind an 8 tanner from New Freedom Station to Howard Tunnel, the 2nd oldest tunnel in the US.

Back in the early 1990's, a family friend gave me this electric train set to give to my son. He was maybe 4 or 5 years old at the time. I showed it to my son, NO reaction. I set it up and he watched the train do a few laps around the track. He again showed absolutely NO interest in the train set. After that, he NEVER asked to see it, and he NEVER asked where it was. I boxed it up, and I completely forgot about it until a few days ago. Basically, it has been in storage for 33 years. A few days ago, I was looking for something in my garage and I found a box that was sealed up with tape and NOT marked with the contents. I opened it and there was the train set. I set it up, it runs fine. I know NOTHING about model or toy trains. I did NOT research this train set at all. I figured I'd take a few pictures and post them here. I will try to describe what I have. Please forgive me if I use incorrect terminology.

The Train Set Contains:
The Lionel Engine. Marked "8040" The Bottom Is Marked "LIONEL-MPC (over) MT. CLEMENS MICH. (over) USA" And "BY LIONEL M.P.C. (over) MT. CLEMENS, MICH. The Lionel Engine Also Has A Three Position Switch On The Top.

The Lionel Coal Car. Marked "NICKEL PLATE ROAD" There Is NOTHING On The Bottom Except A Very Small Number "2" On The Front Set Of Wheels.

The Lionel Miscellaneous Car #1. Marked "9142", "Republic steel" And Various Other Markings. The Bottom Is Marked "6462-2 (over) I" In A Circle. Also, There Is A Very Small Number "1" On The Front Or Back Set Of Wheels. There Is Something Else On The Front Or Back Set Of Wheels, But It Is Obscured.

The Lionel Miscellaneous Car #2. Marked "CN 9013", "CANADIAN NATIONAL" And Various Other Markings. The Bottom Is Marked "MADE IN THE (over) U.S. OF AMERICA" And "LIONEL BY MPC (over) PART # 9010" There Is Also A Very Small Number "4" On Both Sets Of Wheels.

The Lionel Caboose. Marked "9060", "NICKEL PLATE ROAD" And Various Other Markings. On The Bottom, There Is A Very Small Number "2" On The Front Set Of Wheels, And A Very Small Number "1" On The Back Set Of Wheels. There Is Something Else On The Front Set Of Wheels, But It Is Obscured.

The Transformer Is "Type 1010, 35 WATTS" The Text Says, "MADE IN US. OF AMERICA (over) THE LIONEL CORPORATION N.Y. (over) FOR ALTERNATING CURRENT ONLY (over) 120 VOLT-60 CYC. SECONDARY VOLTAGE 7-15V.", And "MULTIVOLT TOY TRANSFORMER" There Is Also A "Scale" It Says OFF To 90 MPH. The Bottom Is Marked "THE (over) LIONEL CORPORATION (over) NEW YORK, N.Y." There Is Also A "SA"(?) In An Incomplete Circle.

The Jumper Wire Connector That Brings The Power From The Transformer To The Track, Is Marked, "LIONEL (over) CTC (over) LOCKON"

There Are Twelve Sections Of Track. There Are Four Straight Sections, And Eight Curved Sections. Assembled, They Form An Oval That Measures Approximately 2' 3" x 3' 8"
