It's Wharncliffe Wednesday!

Where's all the Wharnheads at ? Looks like it's up to me to kick off this Wharncliffe Wednesday once again. Well OK then, that's not a problem...here we go...


This Schrade+ 175 has a bit of AAPK history (and a lot of frequent flyer miles). I purchased it from an AAPK store (NY to HI), sent it to muskrat man for a little makeover (HI to OH and back to HI), then bombed it on Ivoryman (HI to WA). I recently got it back from his estate after his passing (WA to HI).

It began its life with a plastic handle and a sheepfoot blade; muskrat man swapped out the ugly synthetic scales for smooth natural bone with a red spacer and reshaped the blade into more of a Wharncliffe profile.

Here is another Bulldog. The handles are white. I have my suspicions about the material, but the person selling said the handles are white, so white they are.

Here's my poor attemp of a Lansky mod, when he showed some of his mods several years ago, I had seen three identical China Schrades on ebay with no bidders. They were muskrats with a gut hook blade, thought if I could get them cheap I could have some fun trying my hand at what he was doing.I low balled the seller a offer and he took it. I know it doesn't measure up to Lansky's work but I had my fun and it favors a warny to some extent.

Hey Bighomer - that wharncliffe mod looks just fine - always more fun to use a knife you've improved.

I agree completely. A couple of my favorite knives for around the house and garden are old knives with tipped blades that I reshaped into sheepsfoot blades. Old Schrades with broken blades are my material, but if I decide to do a wharncliffe version I will need to use something like Homer uses.

Here’s a Pacific hardware and steel . Both blades stamped . Secondary has oil the joints.
1901 to 1918 was dates of operation for this store .

I really look forward to Wednesdays to watch the Wharncliffe parade unfold. Like Floyd said, it's a great way to start the day and also a good reason to check back every few hours to see what new Wharnies come out of the woodwork

Here's another one with a bit of AAPK history attached: 2007 Case 61549WL Copperlock Michael "T Bar K" Fisher double action automatic mod. It was love at first sight when I saw this one floating across the top of the AAPK home screen one morning back in 2017 and I knew I had to have it. The stag for the scales was salvaged from a 100 yr old butcher knife.
