Re: Big Chief
I picked up my first "Big Chief" yesterday. I can see what you guys mean with what you are saying about them now. Mine has a small nick in the blade, but is otherwise very usable.

Re: Big Chief
I've posted these pics before else where but they seem to fit here. It is like the knife I carried through High School years.

Re: Big Chief
I know a guy who has every variation of these, and it's not me.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Re: Big Chief
Nice collection of Chiefs! I don't think I've ever seen the "little chief" before.

Here I thought you had the market cornered on these, Herb.

Re: Big Chief
That's cool man. A little chief and one with a sheepsfoot. I do love a big & little combo.
That's my Etsy store where I sell old knives and sometimes handmade knife accessories to support my knife habbit. Thanks for looking my friend.

You'll see the small one's on the bay now and then, I got lucky on the one I have.ThatWeirdKnifeGuy wrote: βWed Aug 20, 2025 12:13 amThat's cool man. A little chief and one with a sheepsfoot. I do love a big & little combo.
The one sheep foot is one I bought from Gilbert Cooper, evendently he kept the patent on the big chief handles and back springs. He calls it a divers knife. They are for sale at Cooper knives.
Ole smokey sells one but it's just a regular slip joint.

Re: Big Chief
Here are the 45s that I have left:
I've been through several of these 45s, still don't have a small one. I've given the grandson's some and got rid of several others. All of these in the picture have the patent number for a tang stamp but with different fonts. I've noticed some with different tang stamps including the Queen name. It's always interesting to see the differences in the same knife, the easy open with a bail/shackle, the one with the large lanyard hole and the plain model.
One I should have kept had "patent pending" on the the tang.

Re: Big Chief
MB I sure hope you run across one.
I don't get on ebay that much anymore, I've seen a few of these knives there in the past. They must have been a limited run, which in my opinion is a shame as they are very pocket friendly.
