Re: Camillus 72 Clones
Here's one I picked up a couple months ago. A Craftsman 9494, with the oval Craftsman shield, Bone Handles, and the main blade is a Imperial tang stamp. This makes my second Bone Handle Craftsman 9494. Blades are stained, but no looseness and have (not hard), but decent snap.

Well..... you may want to update the CAMILLUS 72 "VARIATIONS", "WANNABES", "Clones" and "LOOKALIKES" list again. Here is another. I present an Ator whittler made in Solingen Germany. It is the same pattern and size as a Camillus pattern 72 except the coping blade is wider . It has black synthetic handles, a flatter Federal Style shield, and steel liners. I've also include the info I've researched on it.

Thanks Skip. So, elimination of the word Clone because a Clone would refer to an exact duplicate in all aspects and design which by that definition would also include the exact tang stamp and makers mark or shield???New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Sun Dec 14, 2025 7:56 pmSmitty, just a FANTASTIC FIND!!![]()

Re: Camillus 72 Clones
I have another addition to The Camillus 72 Variations thread. I picked this one up this past spring. Been looking for one for several years. I didn't even know about this pattern until I started visiting AAPK and found this thread about 6 years ago.
A Camillus 80 Premium Carpenters Whittler. It has the gimped liners, 80 stamped on the reverse side of the main Clip blade with the Camillus Long Line tang stamp on the obverse. It has reddish brown bone handles with the pointed oval shield. Blades have wear, but all are tight, no wobble with good snap.
It does have a bad ding on the left side small bolster, looks like something heavy and pointed was dropped on it. You see the knife as I received it. I've only kept it oiled and wiped down.

Re: Camillus 72 Clones
Exactamundo, Smitty.
To me, a clone of a CAMILLUS 72 is, IN GENERAL....another CAMILLUS 72.
Comparing two 72's side by side, IF they BOTH have the same shield, the same handle material(s),
the same blades configuration, the same tang stamp(s) or etch, the same pattern number, etc.,
then one is a clone. I would consider any MAJOR difference between ANY two 72's being compared,
as making one of them a "VARIATION", a "WANNABE", or a "LOOKALIKE."
That is a BEAUTIFUL "80", Smitty.

Re: Camillus 72 Clones
A couple of days ago, my trip to the post office produced this CAMILLUS 72, variation, wannabe, or lookalike pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is an UNBRANDED, three blades, 3 5/8" closed, swelled center, a main blade pull and matchstrike, two springs, "whittler", pattern or style of pocket knife. There are NO stamps, NO etches, and NO markings of any kind. If I had to guess a country of origin, I would guess CHINA, or PAKISTAN, or.....? It does seem to be a VERY WELL MADE pocket knife. The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a SOFT half stop. The secondary blade does have an OK opening snap. The secondary blade does have an OK closing snap. The third blade does have a SOFT half stop. The third blade does have an OK opening snap. The third blade does have a GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT require cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
