Thought I would give this topic something new...
Haven't been on the forum lately, busy setting all this up in the shop, to go along with my upholstery and knife store.
Like I don't have enough hobbies already, I decided to dip my feet into custom knifemaking. but like how it has gone so far.

Currently, I am getting to know the grinder with some cheap steel, grinding practice bevels and choils, etc, and acquiring the necessary tools, mostly organizing ones I already have that will work for knives. I got the multi speed Jet drill press at an auction for 200, and bought the belt grinder and metal band saw off Amazon. Hope they hold up Still gotta build or buy a forge. Maybe by winter, I will have a presentable knife to show.

If you need someone to field test your creations or take any factory seconds off your hands, I'm your guy. I'll need to get them early in your career and for cheap before you take off and get famous and expensive

I brought part of my setup outside. It's usually in a windowless corner of my basement so the change in scenery was nice. I usually have this white tray on my desk anyway so going mobile is easy. The knife is a PIC Japan with locking blade and saw secondary that i purchased from Scott. It's getting a shakedown and clean up for use. Yeah I know, abrasives and what not. I'm not collecting this bad boy though, it's getting the hardest use that a suburban stay at home dad can dream up. Which isn't much.

Thank you Kevin! Starting this hobby at age 69 is definitely gonna keep me from retiring ... better to burn out than to fade way.

Sweet CxIII I have set a forge up in my back yard, but the daytime temperature is 106 and only more heat will be on the way for months to come ... so I have not fired up the forge yet.... also, I have absolutely NO idea what I am doing forging .... so I'v got that going for me....

I'll get outside and get some pictures CxIII, a friend made it for me to burn coal, it is pretty basic, made out of a tire rim and set up to attach a blower to it. I have a big 'ol anvil and a couple of smaller "homemade" anvils and a pretty good selection of hammers and tongs.

Thanks TopDog ... got my note pad handy. Sure I will learn something from you. You are ahead of me on the forge. I'm just practicing stock removal to begin with, then move to heat treating after I get a forge. Then after I get that and the handles satisfactory, I will try forging. Look forward to your pics!

I've been organizing my knives and getting the ones I like out of my work area and into my little knife world I'm setting up for my self. This used to be a sort of correspondence desk where I could type or write up letters, emails and knife listings. It's been a while since it's served that purpose as I usually just do those things on my phone, or on my notepad that's obviously quite portable. So now it's a knife desk. I just hung this repurposed display with my user fixed blades in it. Thought I'd share the set up with the group.

Pretty much everything is thrifted and repurposed. There's wooden dresser caddies on top, and matching faux leather caddies in the drawer. The other drawer is dedicated box and sheath storage. The small display in the middle has my Squirrel Brady knife in it, I think it once housed a tourist trinket of one kind or another. The desk itself was found marked free outside the Salvation Army store. The lighting isn't great for pictures, but is warm and cozy for sitting and admiring my little world

Seriously, I commit the sin of envy by looking at those pics. You guys have some awesome areas and if I had 'em, my wife might have a hard time finding me ever again!

Knice organized area TWKG! I see more wall displays most likely going up. I am OCD about organizing, but still have to hunt something down at any given time, tools especially Knice job!

Although I sweep the floor after each use (don't want to track bits of metal into my apartment), I am admittedly lazy about cleaning my bench. This is "mildly" messy.
