Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963

The Cattaraugus Cutlery Company was started by John Champlin and his son Tint in 1882. It was first incorporated under the name J.B.F. Champlin and Son as a wholesale distribution company based in Little Valley, New York. The business proved to be a successful endeavor, and it soon branched into a knife production company named Cattaraugus.

PringleTree wrote: Tue Apr 15, 2025 12:07 am I posted this Catt on this thread back on Feb 13, 2025. Note the cracked and deteriorating covers, (last 3 pics). Here it is after a sweet re-handle by Herb in antique pearl Kirinite, (first 3 pics). We were striving to have replacement covers similar in appearance to the originals. I'm not big on shields, so I chose not to include one on the new covers. My pics didn't capture the beauty of the new covers very well--may try again tomorrow in different lighting.

Thanks for looking,

Chris J.
Wow, he did a great job on that knife! Gorgeous!
Hi Reverand:
Yes, a masterful job. I'm very pleased with it, as with the Catt you did for me in burl walnut--will share that one soon.

Some of my Catts, with some of the different boxes. Tried to match the knife with box of the same era!

Absolutely awesome. That wrench tool/knife is incredible. And, having boxes with them is just icing on the cake.

Well I could not make it to the Little Valley show, however because of a couple of good friends I was able to get this super rare knife marked GALVANIC over 1882 and etched galvanic in script. As I’m told a lady came in the show with a box of knives and ended up at Steve Pfeiffer’s table. When it was shown to him Eric Albers was right there and took a picture of it and sent it to me. I immediately called Eric and he helped me make a deal for it with Steve who had bought it from the lady. Thanks Eric and Steve for helping me get this great piece. The group picture is of the 4 Galvanic knives I am lucky to own. Very early trademark of JBF Champlin😬😬

Couple of very cool lobsters with ink! The ink on the red one only has the stain of the ink on the back of the main blade left. Employee badge with them!!
