Schrade two blade-carbon steel original, it is made in soligen very early model, 1904 approximately. Should I have it cleaned, etc. my husband collected his entire life, he passed away and I need to know how to deal with antique knives and not destroy the value.

I been having trouble logging on. This new computer really sucks!
I finally picked up my knife from Matt, I mean he lives 3 miles away!
That sucker is 16.75 inches oal with a 101/4 inch blade. 1095 steel with forced patina using frenches mustard and a Buckeye burl handle. His wife is the leather worker and what a fine job she can do! He refers to it as a chopper, it is a bit forward heavy, I think of it as a large fighter. A down thrust to a shoulder and the foe is done for! Matt will be set up at Little valley this year with a few beautiess. He will have one of the nicest knives Ive looked at there, the hand checkering on the handle is enuff to knock yer socks off! And I gotta say, his kitchenware is Top Chef stuff

HUH??
the computer really does suck, so does my computer savvy.
The knife is as accuratly decribed as I can do.
matts knives are awesome, this is my 9th. That hand checkered knife is a show piece. Id put up photos of all of them, if I could figure things out
Its pretty darned close to 3 miles dep[ending if I use the truck or the SXS

Looooooooooooooooooove that. Killer burl, blade, sheath. Wow that's cool. I nabbed a Becker BK 9 to have a big, bad chopper and it's great at that, and I love it but it isn't pretty like this. My hat is off. Gorgeous. Keep them coming.Mcalevycustomknives wrote: ↑Sun Jun 08, 2025 9:49 pm Rob asked me to post a couple pictures of the latest custom I made for him.

Love that cover pattern from Case. I had a Canoe in the same “Rattlesnake” jigging, but mine was in what they call “antique bone.” Made the mistake of leaving it in my tool bag, when I was field tech-ing for Rite-Aid. Was up a ladder, running some low-v line, and someone on staff filched it. Didn’t find out til I was on the road to my next ticket, and was right upset about it. Shame you can’t trust the folks you work with, but ya know, if the thief needed that Canoe so bad they were willing to jeopardize their eternal soul—then have at it, I guess. It’s just a thing, of steel and bone, and I can always get another. (Though I haven’t seen the Antique Rattlesnake Bone in a while…)Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Mon Jun 09, 2025 7:43 pm Picked up another red diamond back jigged Case knife. Muskrats are not my usual knife to collect, but this is the only other pattern I could find with these handles on them. If they add more, I will go after them all.
I see in your next post that you’re going to grab a whole run of those covers—do they have a Canoe?

Sorry to hear about the theft. They keep this bone pattern around and put on with different colors from time to time, I’m sure there would be one you would like. They also have this in an antique brown bone that is very pretty. So far the only patterns are the mini Dr, muskrat, and trapper in the red, they also have a Russlock and small congress in the antique brown bone. I’m hoping they will put this on all the patterns. I’m excited about this handle material, it’s a very nice looking knife with this on it.Good Old Luke wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 3:10 pmLove that cover pattern from Case. Got this pristine TL29 Utica from Steve P knifeaholic. It looks new down to the gold letering on the handle. A day late for my Birthday but still counts. Thanks for looking and thank you Steve.

Grabbed this old Schrade Craftsman today at an antique store. It was pretty dirty and missing the shield. So, i did a bit of cleanup, and put a piece of brass in place of the old Craftsman shield. It's basically an Old Timer 8OT with different color handles and shield. I think it will make a great EDC.
