The Impact of new Aussie Knife laws to me as a collector

I went to buy some pocket knifes online today and got a real shock. Due to knife crime by gangs who are immigrants from Africa, different Aussie states have changed their knife legislations.

Two gangs fought each other in a shopping centre mall and chopped into each other with machetes.
Knives in retail shops are under lock and key and not for sale to minors. Knife attacks over the last few years seemed to have increased. It never was an aussie trait to settle arguments with a knife but certain elements emigrated into Australian society have changed all that.

Before the vendor could ship the pocket knives to me, I am required by law to provide a copy of some some form of age Id and and address,ie my vehicle licence which carries such details.Good people are treated almost like criminals when they are not.

It is illegal for anyone to(without a lawful reason) to carry any knife ,machete, boxcutter, razors etc ..One can own them and use them at home but if the police stop me and search me and I have one I could be charged with an offence. I cannot have one in my car unless I was on my way to hunt or fish

The only thing that laws like this do is to keep honest people honest (and punish them). Perhaps if the laws were more focused on the punishment for using a knife/machete in the commission of a crime, rather than a punishment for the item itself, that might help curb the knife-related crime.

History has proven what a bad idea it is to pass laws like these. First, how do you contend with the sheer number of knives that are already owned. Second, the bad guy ignores those laws and finds a way to acquire knives for unlawful purpose. Only the good guy is harmed by these laws but politicians have to “act” to show their constituents they are earning their keep.

First go the guns, then the knives, then the rest of your freedoms.

Here in the States our Bill of Rights clearly states that government "shall not infringe" our inalienable right to keep and bare arms, yet the government infringes on that right daily.

I collect knives made by Koi Knives in Austrailia...I hope the new laws don't keep them from exporting to the US.

In the short term ,its the Aussie knife makers who may be affected greatly.

Will the buyers reduce their knife purchasing, overall?

I think the new laws will increase the cost of knives as the Oz makers, selling fewer knives will have to increase their prices to stay afloat.

I shudder to think what the next step, by our genius pollies, will be.

Perhaps in the future I may have to set up secure lockers to prevent thieves, who may break and enter my house, from stealing my nasty knives.

As was the case with the guns, the powers that be, won,t be so much concerned about the break and enter to my property, but the fact the ( uncontrolled) knives will be on the streets.

I think the legitimate knife owners of my country are in for a battle.

About 40 years age I looked into moving to Australia. There were very stringent rules regarding immigration at that time.
Things must have changed considerably for all those orcs to be allowed in.

While I agree, this comes across harsh to the OP. You and I may vote the same (and if the RedRaider is the Texas one like I assumed) , but the people in the urban areas like Dallas and Houston can ruin it for the entire country or state. I was scared to death Beto was going to get Texas due to what 5 cities in a state this size voted. I continue to vote regularly, but I still end up getting what I don’t “deserve “ from others voting.
