Imperial-Sheffield spinoff from our mystery knife game

Post by SwedgeHead »

(You may have to follow along here a bit )
I have this knife in our mystery knife game today, its still active but I'm already drafting this new post in anticipation of someone guessing it right pretty quick.(very proactive, I know...)

it's a Richards Sheffield camp knife and the reason I got it was because I had been collecting all of the others in a 1977-82 Imperial series.
I have them all in original packaging. The super 5 itself was included was not in the series, then it was, and then not again but was one I just couldn't find after 2 years of looking. After more digging I found that it was actually a Sheffield made for Imperial, so I went about finding one and picked it up - hoping one day to find the actual Imperial on it's card. It's a really fuzzy story on this particular knife in the turbulent imperial timeline, I couldn't get a clear story on it but knew Sheffield was the Maker... so I got this guy to fill the gap.

Back to Imperial, notice 6 models in the series but no super 5:

COME TODAY I decided to play the Sheffield in our mystery knife game, and knowing it might be easy I googled the image for myself...and what comes up? the Imperial Super 5 on it's card - NO, SWEET ! (1st time ever seeing it and a good deal to complete my collection too so I bought it and its on its way)
Adding to the story, I can now see that this is the only one in the series to note a separate Maker (as Sheffield on the card) which plays right into the research and story.

6 models, including super 5 but minus the premium stock:

And my new addition, making it 7 total!
(with credit to Sheffield on the card as an interesting one off piece)

So special thanks to our mystery knife players for inadvertently helping me finish up this collection! ::ds::

this pic shows the super 5 falling in and out of the series.
Both out and in 1977, still in 81, back out in 82... seems like a transitional period piece for Imperial.

Thank you.
Found another bit of trivia, all of the knives in the series on the lower right back of the card in small print reference a RJ-xxx model number, I just happened to catch the Super 5 actually says "super 5". Doesn't matter in the least but still knife trivia. ::tu::

It's not all about catching the fish, a lot of fun is finding the bait.
I buy roosters combs and farmers..........................................................jack knives [/b]
