I am new to the forum...i live in Stratford, Iowa....i have tinkered with knives for years and toy with making fixed blade knives......i have enjoyed case knives for a long time and own several...my favorite is canoes...i recently purchased a canoe that was advertised as from the 70's ....year unknow as you cannot see the dots for the bolster......the thing i cannot figure out is the blade markings... the (Case XX U.S.A.) stamp is larger than the other 70's era canoes that i own...the blade has the Indian Etching but the bolsters are a bit larger with a slightly overall heavier look compared to my other 70's canoes.....
any ideas what i have......
thanks...... randy

Re: case canoe question....
Paul,
Thanks for the kind welcome....here is a pic of the knife....as you can see the letter size on the one knife is noticeablly larger than the one with the dots.....Note also that the bolsters on the large lettered knife are shaped different....they seem to be heavier.....i cannot see no sign of a dot on the large lettered knife...
thanks.....randy

Hi Randy, Welcome to AAPK!!
I'm rather new here myself but I have already met a lot of good people! Your canoe is definitely from the 70's. In 1980 they changed the s in Case and USA to a lightning bolt type s and started over with 10 dots again and just like in the 70's they subtracted 1 dot a year. If you will open the master blade to the half open position and move it a little both ways slowly you may be able to see the dots. I have a 94 canoe and that is the only way I was able to see the dots on it. I believe they started putting the canoe on the blade in 74 but I could be wrong. Hope I helped a little. Holler at me anytime

Re: case canoe question....
Randy, check Knifekid's post on Canoes; in the "Knife Related Q&A forum" on Oct.22. Doubt if anyone knows more about Case than he does; (PM) him I am sure he can answer.
