Clubs, fighting sticks and Tomahawks, I have always liked them. Here are a few that I put together.

Thanks C-W7, As I recall the abiogenies that migrated from New Guinea to Australia actually lost the knowledge of using a bow and arrow and resorted to using the throwing stick. I believe the subject is covered at length in "Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies" a book by Jared Diamond

It’s seems hard to imagine that being lost, but if during travel the elders or hunters died it would be gone, think of all the knowledge that’s been lost since time begun. I try to buy books on old technology and basic survival because if the internet ever goes away there will be so much information lost. I’ve seen some videos of those throwing sticks in action and in skilled hands they are very effective and deadly.

I agree with you , ... and a great example is the Roman technology that slipped away (think about their invention and use of "concrete") in Western Europe after 476 AD. I have also read that introducing Indians to firearms in North America led to a decrease in their proficiency over time with the bow and arrow. There are some amazing accounts of fights with the Texas Rangers and the Comanche and their deadly ability to shoot fast and accurate with a bow.

Here is a fighting stick.... ... with a with a chain and spiked ball attached to it .... (also commonly known as a Morning Star Flail, a wooden shaft joined by a chain to one or more iron-shod bar, and also known as a Medieval Flail).

Thanks D.L. Nothing like a good piece of Mesquite ... you might not be too familiar with the Mesquite tree in your neck of the prairie it is known as a hardwood and an extremely hardy, drought-tolerant plant....

Oh, we know about mesquite around here. Considered a weed by farmers and ranchers. They have a constant battle trying to keep it from taking over. But it is good in a smoker. In bad times some folk even made flour out of the beans. It is pretty wood.
