The knives made me want to read some Native American literature and I have a sneaking suspicion that the book will make me want to carry the knives.

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
I just started rereading Scott Hartwig's 2023 masterpiece on the Battle of Antietam, I Dread the Thought of the Place. This is a recounting of the Battle of Antietam, its aftermath, and the subsequent Battle of Shepherdstown, VA (now WVa). It is not a history of the entire 1862 Maryland Campaign. The book is 781 pages of narrative, and the details of the combat are hour-to-hour and go down to the brigade and regimental levels. Fortunately for a book of this length, Hartwig's prose is quite readable.
The book's title is from a quote by Major Rufus Dawes of the 6th Wisconsin Infantry, a regiment that saw heavy combat at Antietam (152 casualties out of 314 engaged). When Dawes heard in 1863 that another battle might occur in the area of Sharpsburg, he wrote "I hope not. I dread the thought of the place."

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
I met Sgt. Koon, L.A.P.D., at a gun show in Anaheim, California. He was there to promote his book. I forget exactly when, but it was sometime after the trial. I do know that at the time, the proceeds from sales of the book went to his defense fund. I purchased the book, he signed it and we shook hands. I wished him and the other police officers all the best, and that was it. I really would have liked to talk to him, but there were other people waiting in line. The inscription says, "To Skip - Read this book & arm yourself with truth & knowledge" I read the book when I bought it. Thirty-three years later, and I am reading it again. It is still a very good and interesting read.

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
In September 1991, I had the pleasure and the privilege of meeting Brigadier General USAF, Retired, Paul W. Tibbets, the pilot of the Enola Gay. On August 6, 1945, the Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. He held the rank of Colonel at that time. He was on tour promoting his book, "Flight of the ENOLA GAY" I bought the book, he signed the book, and we shook hands. I told him that it was a great honor to meet him. I wished him all the best, and that was it. He was willing to answer questions, but I couldn't really think of one to ask him. The inscription says simply, "To Skip - best wishes" I read the book when I bought it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am definitely going to read it again. It is still a very good, and a very interesting, historical read.

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
I just now finished reading the above posted book, "Flight of the ENOLA GAY." I figured it would make sense to follow up that historical read with this DIRECTLY RELATED, VERY interesting, yet VERY disturbing and VERY sad, historical read. It is titled "ALL THE DROWNED SAILORS" by Raymond B. Lech. It is the story of the U.S.S. Indianapolis. Published in 1982, there have been since then, MANY UPDATES to this tragedy. On the internet there is a TON of information, ALSO VERY GOOD READING. I read this book a couple of times before, but like with most books dealing with American history, it DESERVES another reading. This coming July 30th, August 6th, and August 9th, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis, the dropping of the Hiroshima atomic bomb, and the dropping of the Nagasaki atomic bomb.

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
I had the pleasure and the honor of meeting Presidential candidate Patrick J. Buchanan at a "Springtime BBQ & Rally" on April 29, 2000. It was held on the property of a private residence in La Canada, California. I purchased his, at the time, most recent book. He signed it, I took a picture with him, and we shook hands. I wished him all the best in his bid for the Presidency. I REALLY would have liked to talk to him, but there were MANY, MANY, other people waiting in line. The inscription simply says, "Patrick J. Buchanan" I did read the book when I bought it. Actually, I read it a couple of times. Twenty-five years later, and I am reading it again. It is still a VERY, VERY good and interesting read.

Good one, Skip. I became a big fan of Patrick Buchanan from watching the McLaughlin Group, back when PBS had at least some semblance of featuring the occasional viewpoint fron the Right. He once made the statement on the show, (paraphrasing) "the United States will never be brought down by a foreign adversary, it will happen from within". Unfortunately, his prognostication is becoming quite believable.New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Fri May 02, 2025 6:15 pm I had the pleasure and the honor of meeting Presidential candidate Patrick J. Buchanan

"The Thunder Head" by Dwight Holing. It's book #9 in the Nick Drake series. Nick is an eastern Oregon USFWS warden and gets himself into (and out of) all sorts of situations. Ideally, read the series in order.

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
Sounds similar in premise to the C.J. Box series of best selling mysteries featuring Wyoming game warden Joe Picket.

Yes, the Nick Drake series is very similar to the Joe Pickett series, with a touch of Longmire mixed in.
Luckily, the Nick Drake books on Kindle are about $6 whereas the Joe Pickett books have climbed to about $12-$15. That said, I think the Pickett books are worth the extra $$.

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
What better way to follow-up reading a book authored by Patrick J. Buchanan,
than by reading another, different book, authored by Patrick J. Buchanan.
I received this book, as a thank you gift, back in February, 2002. I received it for being a valued campaign supporter. I read it when I received it, and I have read it a few more times since then. Well I'm reading it again, and it's just as interesting today, as it was the first time I read it. The inscription says, "To Skip, Thanks, and All The Best, Pat Buchanan Feb 6/02"

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
In 2008, I bought the book featured below. I forgot that I bought this book. I forgot that I owned this book. I completely forgot all about this book. Somehow, when I moved, this book got separated from all of my other Pat Buchanan books. So when I unpacked them and put them up on the book shelves, this particular Pat Buchanan book ended up in a completely "unrelated" group of books. I never got around to reading it, as I forgot that it even existed. That is, until now.....I was quite happy to rediscover this book, by accident. I can't wait to read it, for the first time, but definitely not the last time.

.....and last but certainly NOT least.
I believe that this book was the third book authored by Patrick J. Buchanan. But oddly enough, it wasn't the first, it was the third, Patrick J. Buchanan book that I read. It is time to read it again. It definitely does NOT get old and stale.
1990 Edition.

My previously posted Patrick J. Buchanan book, "Right From The Beginning", as it turns out, was NOT the "last".....
Back in 2006, I purchased the book that is posted below. I completely forgot that I purchased this book. I completely forgot that I possessed this book. I just completely forgot all about this book.
