knife rolls for folders
I am in the market for a couple of folding knife rolls -- rolls free of the elasticized loops that corrode metal on your knives.
Any suggetsions?
I used the search bar for the AAPK BUY/SELL section and no knife rolls came up.

It depends on whether you want them for rolling out to display on a knife show table, or just for storage. Sack Ups are good for storage but not display. I have found another excellent and inexpensive roll for storage. Let me know if you want info.
As far as a roll for display/selling, the only ones that seem to be available now (new) are the China made rolls with the red interior.

Re: knife rolls for folders
I have a couple of the conventional salesman-style knife rolls, and one briefcase-style knife folder, that I use for knives I want to display (like taking them to a show). The knives get cleaned and put back into their Sackups as soon as I get back home. I learned the hard way to never store knives in one of those conventional knife rolls one is leather with a gold cloth interior, the other is Naugahyde with red cloth interior - it’s the one that ruined several knives that were stored in it (all had bone covers, none were celluloid).
Always amazes me that collectors spend hundreds (or thousands) on knives but won’t spend a few dollars to get a good, proven-safe product to store them in.
I’ve heard folks say they don’t like the inconvenience of not being able to see and find a knife that’s in a Sackups roll. My solution to that is writing a brief two to four word description of each knife, in list form on a piece of paper. Simple system, top-to-bottom on the list is left-to-right in the roll. That paper is folded, the general description (like “Case stags”, or “whittlers”, etc) is written on the folded list. Then just slip it under the tie in the Sackups roll. Problem solved. Easy to see what’s in any given roll, then if it’s what you want pull the list out from under the tie, open it and see the more detailed descriptions. If what I’m wanting isn’t in that roll just fold the list, slip it back under the tie, and go to the next roll. It’s not necessary to unroll it and remove the knives to find what I want.

Re: knife rolls for folders
On Amazon I bought some cloth rolls (made for storing silverware) that I have bought to store knives - like I said great for compact storage, not great for display. I find that these are well made and work really well.
Search Amazon for "cloth rolls silverware storage" and several options will come up. They are made of blue fabric and each holds 12 knives.
I have searched for years to find decent "display" knife rolls, but sadly after Hickory Hill ceased business, there are no really good ones left, at least not that I can find.

This may not be an option for you, but I saw another member here use old silverware chests to store knives. I have since reading about it aquired 7 or 8 old chests to put both my fixed blades and folders into. They have slots, drawers and various ways of holding your knives in place, and when you open the top, it can display the knives inside well. The cloth lining, depending on the brand, is anti tarnish. Pacific Silvercloth in particular uses a lining that they claim never needs replaced. Other anti tarnish cloths are supposed to last 5 to 10 years. I have thrifted each of my chests, the most expensive so far being a real nice Roger's cherry wood chest with lush red lining, cost me 5 dollars.
Pacific Silvercloth also sells their product by the yard. Could be used to line a small chest or cigar box, or make your own roll if you've got a sewing machine.

That's my Etsy store where I sell old knives and sometimes handmade knife accessories to support my knife habbit. Thanks for looking my friend.

I have to agree with Senator Ken from TX (Mumbleypeg) on this one even though they are pricey, their website is almost not navigable and they can be difficult to store and access. Even with the negatives, they are the best protection for your folding knives (fixed blade too but you asked about folding knife rolls).stumpstalker wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 10:51 pm I am in the market for a couple of folding knife rolls -- rolls free of the elasticized loops that corrode metal on your knives.

Depending on how many knives you are looking to protect, I’d go with this 18-knife sack https://www.discountcutlery.net/AC807-S ... gKf-_D_BwE and stand 5 of them vertically in a sturdy box with a tag on each sack. I’d then have an inventory for each sack so I could access any knife from the top. Carrying 90 knives around (18 x 5) isn’t easy so you might want to scale accordingly.
Keep us updated.

Re: knife rolls for folders
My wife has made some rolls for me using felt fabric and her sewing machine. They seem easy to make and require straight seams. Use thin felt because thick felt is not needed to protect the knives and thin felt keeos the roll diameter manageable.
If there is no seamstress in the house, you might be able to take fabric to a cleaners that does alterations and tell them what you need or bring a sketch.

While you cannot unroll or open the Sack-ups for easy display, I totally agree that Sack-ups provide terrific protection against damage and corrosion. I have used them for more years than I care to remember and have never had corrosion and (knock on wood) never had an outgassing problem in the sack-up. When I clean and oil my knives I do so on top of the sack-up so that it absorbs any excess. I use Barricade spray gun oil. The sack-ups also ‘breath’ while providing protection. I actually store them flat in the drawers of a metal tool chest, not rolled up. I prefer this cloth to vinyl folders and elastic bands because I am leery of the plasticizers. I recently opened a vinyl folder of a recently deceased fellow collector and the fabric liner had transferred green die to the synthetic handles. I have also witnessed elastic bands melted to synthetic handles.
While others will have differing opinions, this Sack-up and Barricade system has worked well for me.
