Is this a Böker 9695?

Post by Ittsukan »

Picked up this vintage swell end jack because I thought it may be a Böker 9695.
The missing shield seemed to indicate that but it has no Böker marks, only Solingen Germany on each blade tang. I don't know if it is some kind of copy. It is very well made. Solid bolsters, half stop on each blade, and the scales appear to be bone, not a composite as there is no indication of melting around the pins. There doesn't seem to be any indication that there was an etch on the blade that was removed and the hole where the shield goes is 10mm. Bigger than the mid 70s Bökers I have.
The catalog page is from 1972/73.
Would appreciate any thoughts on this one. TIA

Incredible that after nine months and over 3000 views not a single thought, opinion, observation or comment has been offered :o

Although this Boker is USA made, not Solingen, and has different jigged bone scales, it is a 9695 model that, FWIW, I can show for comparison.

3 5/16" closed, 10mm shield ---The OP knife appears to be closer to 3½" or 3 9/16" closed ::hmm::

Thanks for the reply.
I actually wrote to Boker and sent them detailed photos but they were unable to provide any info other than the 9695 was made between 1914 and 1960.
But I found it in a 1972/73 catalog. While it looks identical, the knife I have seems to be slightly shorter than the one in the catalog at 3½" rather than 3⅝.
So, Boker wasn't as helpful as I hoped. I'll keep searching

As you probably noticed, the master spear blade on the OP knife is different, too: nail nick instead of long pull and no swage.
