I would need to see photos. Case stopped making the 52131 in 1970, so none were made in 1974. Need pics of the knife and the tang stamp and the pattern number.
Edited to add: I just saw the "SS" in your post so it is stainless - could possibly be 1980's but more likely 1990's or later.

Click on Research in the header at the top of this page. Then scroll down to W.R. Case & Sons Pocket Knife Age Identification. Click on that, and when it opens compare the stamp on your knife to the examples shown there.

I'll be surprised if anyone knows how many were made of an advertising knife. You could contact Case www.caseknives.com and ask if they have any records of the transaction but that's probably a long shot too.
Nice knife - put it in your pocket!

Re: case usa 52131
The stamp on the OP knife dates it as a 1994, so how to explain this clearly stamped 52131 if "Case stopped making the 52131 in 1970?" Maybe the master spear blade with the 1994 date stamp is not original to this knife, perhaps? Or....knifeaholic wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 3:52 pm I would need to see photos. Re: case usa 52131
Case discontinued a lot of knives from their standard product line, only to later restore them as part of their "Vault Release" marketing plan. I think some were also re-introduced as standard production, only to be discontinued again several years later. I can't keep up with it all anymore!QTCut5 wrote: ↑Fri May 16, 2025 4:13 pmThe stamp on the OP knife dates it as a 1994, so how to explain this clearly stamped 52131 if "Case stopped making the 52131 in 1970?" Re: case usa 52131
Sorry I should have explained that. 1970 was the last year of the 1970's that Case made the old style 52131 in CV steel. The only other 52131 made in the 1970's was the 52131 SSP "Blue Scroll" knife made in 1977. AFAIK all 52131's made after 1970 are stainless steel.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Fri May 16, 2025 4:13 pmThe stamp on the OP knife dates it as a 1994, so how to explain this clearly stamped 52131 if "Case stopped making the 52131 in 1970?"
