Can anyone help identify or have one to sell?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Can anyone help identify or have one to sell?

Post by Jarno »

Hello! New to this forum, but was hoping someone here may be able to help. My dad gave my grandpa this Case Barlow Knife when he asked for my mom’s hand in marriage. My grandpa has since passed and we were unable to find the knife in his belongings. My dad would love to find one for sentimental reasons but I have been unable to find this exact one.

Does anyone here have one they wouldn’t mind parting with &/or any information that might be helpful in locating one? I know he bought it in the early 1980s. Any help would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

My closest guess is Appaloosa Bone. Try searching for “Appaloosa Bone Case Barlow”.

If you are still able to do so, check your grandpa’s couch and chair cushions. He may have lost the knife and didn’t mention it.

I don’t know how many posts I’ve read on knife forums where someone lost their favorite knife. If they find it, furniture cushions are by far the most common place. Car seats too.

Welcome to AAPK. Beautiful knife!

The backside of the master blade should have a pattern number stamped on it. Case still makes Barlow patterns. If you search eBay for “Case Barlow bone” you’ll find many similar to it for sale. Finding one from 1980 with similar bone will take some looking though. You’ll not find one with identical bone coloring however - one of the distinctive features of bone is, being a natural organic material no two are alike. Good hunting!

Thank you everyone for your help/input! Unfortunately it's been lost for 7-8 years. I kept thinking I would find it eventually but have had no luck.

That is a very good tip. I remember when I was a kid our family went to visit a relative in another state. When we got there, my dad mentioned that the last time he had been there, he had lost a set of car keys. I immediately went and sat in the big recliner there and shoved my small hands down as far as I could between the cushions. In a couple of minutes I had found the keys and about $4.00 in change.
