No trophy buck here, and not even a big doe, I just kinda liked this picture that I took earlier while driving a backroad.

Thanks for posting the deer in the road.
I've failed to share my deer pictures for a while, we get lots of them each week and some times picture will show something interesting rather than just normal feeding and walking by a camera.
We're on a different schedule here in the Florida Panhandle as some of you realize, that is the deer don't rut until after the 1st of the year and on into March, fawns aren't usually born until August, September and October and even later now and then. Also antlers aren't usually shed until March.
Here are a few pictures to show what has happened in the last month or so:

Looks like he is getting his mo-Jo back, the girls are taking notice. Strange thing, this buck seemed to tolerate the other deer around the feeder, he was not aggressive as other bucks. When they showed up, all the lesser deer would scatter.

There are almost always a bunch of does and their offspring, both yearlings and fawns around the feeder in the afternoons.

Great pics ... you have a lot of deer coming to your feeder Treefarmer. I have never hunted with a feeder or any bait in place, since in TN we cannot bait unless it is a growing crop. The mountain I referred to in my earlier post will be hunted mainly in NC, which does allow baiting and the season starts earlier. It will be a new experience this coming season ... should see a lot more deer than I am used to.

Florida's game laws prohibit "baiting" on public land/wildlife management areas, on private land feeders are allowed as well as food plots to provide for the deer herd. A feeding station must be in operation 6 months prior to hunting season to be legal. We've been feeding deer year round for many years as well as planting food plots. In the picture I am posting you can see the area between the shooting house and the feeder is a mature patch of combined cereal grains, oats, wheat, etc. This will be soon cut and rolled by a neighbor for his cows. We quit using motorized feeders several years ago and by putting a plate under the cone of the feeder, it works as a gravity feeder only reached by a large deer. The deer rears up and licks the corn, most falls on the ground and the smaller ones pick up the kernels on the ground. Once in a while a big deer can just raise its head and reach the plate, most stand on their hind legs.
We have a pretty good herd of does that stay fairly close year round, in the yard, in the garden and in the bedding areas surrounding the feeder and the food plots. Their at "home", during the rut the bucks come visiting and some times our paths will cross.

Just did a 4 miler around the 'hood, totin' a Veritable Journaix utility knife. Including some pictures of the little league ball field that we walk past, Norfolk Southern is one of the sponsors. Also, a big turtle sunning on a rock and a small one swimming. The large one is about the size of a basketball.

I mostly hunt with open sight flintlocks or breechloaders, I like the challenge of getting close and not relying on too much tech.

I was letting the dog out to pee about noon yesterday, and looked up and saw a bobcat in the backyard. We see them occasionally. (I have posted some pics and video on here). I called the dog back in and took my phone out to get some video. Had to zoom in to 20x, so it's a little shakey. I noticed him looking at something on the deer feeder and then saw a squirrel robbing my corn. After catching the squirrel, he got behind the only power pole in my backyard (of course) so I had to move to another window. My wife arrived home from shopping toward the end of the video. The bobcat had noticed her pull up, and looks back at her with the squirrel hanging from his mouth. Didn't seem to bother him too much.

I felt like Marlon Perkins on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom there for a bit.

I was letting the dog out to pee about noon yesterday, and looked up and saw a bobcat in the backyard. We see them occasionally. (I have posted some pics and video on here). I called the dog back in and took my phone out to get some video. Had to zoom in to 20x, so it's a little shakey. I noticed him looking at something on the deer feeder and then saw a squirrel robbing my corn. After catching the squirrel, he got behind the only power pole in my backyard (of course) so I had to move to another window. My wife arrived home from shopping toward the end of the video. The bobcat had noticed her pull up, and looks back at her with the squirrel hanging from his mouth. Didn't seem to bother him too much.

I felt like Marlon Perkins on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom there for a bit.

Yes, we have a lot of squirrels around here, too. My wife gave up on the bird feeders that hang in the trees - I posted a video a couple of years ago of a squirrel stuck inside one of her hanging bird feeders and her freeing it. Pretty funny video. Nowadays she just throws a big scoop of bird seed over the fence onto the ground in the back yard every morning. The birds seem to like it just fine on the ground. Of course the squirrels, rabbits, deer and every other varmint likes it too.

We were a little worried if we would see the wildlife much any more. One of my neighbors sold the 7 acres that butts up to the back of my place. It was not really suitable to build a house on, as there is a steep drop-off from the road access on the other side, and slopes down steeply to a creek that runs through the middle of the property. Had a nice 25 foot waterfall on it. There's wasn't a flat, level spot on the whole 7 acres. And it was thick trees and brush - perfect for the wildlife around us. This winter the new owner came in and bull-dozed all seven acres and left only a few trees. Filled in the waterfall. Then he stopped working on it about 4 months ago - nothing since then. Me and my neighbors are all curious as to what he is going to do with the property. Build a house and barn / shop down there somewhere, I guess. Guess we'll see eventually.

Caught these critters sneakin across the pasture yesterday about 0530. 4 young cows and a young bull.
