Show off your Gerber Knives

In 1939 Joseph Gerber (advertising agency owner) had custom knife maker David Murphy make 24 sets of carving knife for some of his select customers. Catalog retailer Abercrombie & Fitch saw them and was so impressed with the quality of the knives they wanted to sell them. Thus was born Gerber Legendary Blades.

I found my first one 3 years ago after looking for an affordable one and after buying a collection, I now have 13 of them.gerber FFH.jpg
Since you have so many, I think you may know what a mint Folding Hunter would be worth? Just curious to know what the two I have are worth even though I'm not planning to sell them. One has no checkering and pat pending on blade, the other has checkering and Patent No 3,568,315 on blade... both are mint and between 1968-69.

Nice knives, gents. ::nod::👍 Those Mark II's fetch a hefty price.

Gerber Clip Lock River Knife - designed by Blackie Collins
Gerber Clip Lock River Knife - designed by Blackie Collins
Had one of these back in the 80’s when they first came out. Around 2002 I gifted it to a young fellow but I always missed it. A few years later I noticed that they had gotten kinda scarce and the price for a nice one had gone WAY up from original. I almost gave up looking but about a month ago I finally found this one. Price almost made me choke but I figured everything is expensive these days. I probably won’t give this one up except maybe in my will!

I've found this Gerber Folding Sportsman II in a pawn shop in Medford Oregon. The lock bar would not engage fully and stood proud above the blade spine when it was opened. Apparently the people at the pawn shop couldn't figure out how to fix it, so the price was well below market value. I bought the knife, took it home and removed the pocket lint which was built up against the end of the lock bar. It now closes great with the lock bar even with the blade spine, nice positive lock up. Great walk and talk.

Those FS series knives had a bad habit of losing their glued on wood handle inserts. I once bought one at a gun show that wouldn't stay closed or lock open. Someone had tried to super glue a handle on, and glue had run onto the lock bar. Took a little work to clean the glue out, but cleaned up, it worked good as new.

It was great to see you at the OKCA show, Dale. And it's great to see you're on the forums.

Here's an oldie, the TAC II.
I bought this for desert camping way back, at least a few decades now. This post get me wondering where it was hiding and while cleaning out the RV last weekend I found it. Still in great shape. I love this thing, a cool knife but the ambidextrous locking sheath really makes it and is why I chose it long ago.

The only Gerber I own is this Paraframe.

I used it as a practice knife on a sharpening system that was new to me at the time. Oddly enough, it's one of the best edges I've ever achieved.

The TAC 2 was another innovative Blackie Collins design. Someday I'm going to put together a grouping of all the Blackie Collins models Gerber produced. It will make a pretty good sized pile.
