Well look at that. Some stinkers and some unusual things to boot. Love the pens 🖊. The first year I participated in this event, I felt embarrassed afterward, because I took it a little too literally, and certainly got better than I gave. Every year I try to make the pile of excrement I send off a little nicer, but every year I still feel like I am outclassed.
I really appreciate you vocalizing how you feel about this Brent. I think the goal is purely to have fun and what’s hard is determining what would be fun for your recipient and balancing pure garbage from pure gold. I say let the accumulations begin now!
One of the things I appreciate about this forum is that it really is a community, and folks that have been here for a long time know a fair amount about each other--including understanding what some members like or focus on. For folks like me, who are not quite as integrated yet, it's a little tougher to know what is the best thing to include in a package, although I tried looking at posts by the recipient this year to see what he might like.
that’s a fantastic idea Brent. Maybe we could encourage all of the POS exchange participants to update their “Interests” in their profile to include details of what they collect or what turns them on. Another idea would be to collect that data when participants register and pass that along to their sender. Either way, it’s a good idea worthy of inclusion in the program. Thank you!
Well said.glennbad wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 8:05 pm I've given my share, and then some, of some real stinkers over the years. So maybe giving a few decent ones in the pile is my way of making up for that.
Nobody should feel guilty or ashamed for abiding to the "guidelines" of the POS and unloading their refuse...that is after all the spirit of the POS exchange.![]()
your welcome! Kolvir has been the coordinator of the POS Exchange the past few years, I just stepped in this year as he was under the weather. I’m sure he’ll take your suggestion under advisement. As a side note, we had 30% less participants this round than the prior which might be a sign that increasing the frequency of the exchange would erode participation even further
some really constructive feedback my friend, thank you Ken. I don’t think the current format necessarily warrants change but hearing ideas and being open minded is healthy. I’m sure Kolvir will take all of this into account when launching the next round.KLJ77 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 12:09 pmPersonally, I don't believe the POS exchange should be changed. Keep it a yearly event to maintain the anticipation of the event itself. To organize the POS is an intense undertaking for just a yearly event. To have the POS twice a year would drop participation down even more, imho. Furthermore, I don't believe asking for what participants like in knives or their desires is the right thing to do. This would only cause one to believe that they are then obligated to send something on the list, but the sender may not have any of those items. We do not want to cause, or imply, that someone has to 'spend' money to participate in the POS exchange. Keep it where it's at and let the SENDER decide what they want to part with, whether the entire batch is nothing but POS, or there is something a bit nicer included.
No one should feel obligated to participate, but everyone should have a sincere desire to participate and enjoy the POS. The thrill of the adventure, and the joy of friendship and camaraderie.
KLJ77 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 12:09 pm I agree with Glenn...no one should feel guilty or embarrassed because they didn't send a couple of nicer items in the POS. The POS is not a competition to see who can send the nicest things with the worst of things. It's a yearly event that was designed to bring out the camaraderie amongst fellow knifers and have some humorous fun doing it.
I know I've sent some really nice pieces with my yearly dregs and crap. Some of my POS pieces are really not POS. A lot of my pieces are types of knives I have absolutely no interest in and would rather pass them along to a new home where they'll be more appreciated. But I have also sent out some pretty ugly, smelly things that don't deserve a platform of recognition.
As to the really 'nicer' pieces I've sent along in past POS's, these are merely items I choose to re-home and pass along. I don't do this for notoriety or accolades...it's NOT about me, at least it's not my mindset, it's about putting a smile on a fellow knifer's face. I have so many knives, I don't know what to do with them. I'm going to be 74 in June, and my health is questionable on any given month. My wife has no interest in the knives I've accumulated / collected and wouldn't know what to do with them if I were no longer here. I've tried to sell many of them, but no bites or interest. So, I pick some nice pieces for the POS to pass along, for I am no longer attached to them and they're just collecting dust. I would rather re-home a knife, then to hold on to it with no desire to have it at home.
I try to make it special for my POS recipients. Something a bit different each time. I don't believe anyone is intentionally trying to make others feel guilty or lesser because they can't send 'nicer' pieces during POS time. Some can't and some can, but it's NOT obligatory to anyone to send out a nice piece or pieces. The main reason for the POS yearly event is to have fun with it, make new friends and thoroughly enjoy it for what it is.

It is a wild assortment of POS knives combined with quite a few that will slip right into my low rent collection. Along with a really nice Gerber E-Z Out that I will certainly carry. My wife immediately claimed the Zombie Killer Tivoli kitchen knife.
It's true that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Thanks Dale.
